Jihad vs. McRotary
Jonathan Schwarz over at Slate highlights one of the less-discussed aspects of radical Islam's war on the West: their targeting of the Rotary Club as a particularly virulent enemy of Islam. Schwarz untangles the reasons, involving (as does everything) the Freemasons, the Catholic Church, and our Jihadist enemies' unfortunate reliance not just on Western weapons, but Western conspiracy theories as well.

... and the Shriners, with their fezzes and little people in little cars. And Longaberger people, because no good muslim would pay that much for a mere basket!
All the commenters at Little Green Footballs immediately joined the Rotary Club after learning that it was anti-muslim.
Slightly related question: Why was HL Menken so hostile towards Rotarians? I've had to attend a few of those meetings, and their fundementally uninteresting. Perhaps they were different in the 1920s?

The LGF commenters immediately flooded Hit And Run after learning that it was both pro Islamist and not worthy of being threatened by a Reuters employee.
Steven, lighten up. I wouldn't judge the entire LGF gang based on the sentiments of just 95% of the comments.
okay, i'm not a regular here but i've been around enough to notice a trend that visitors from other blogs who take issue with this site cannot help but make some sort of reference to the name "Reason."
"i thought this was called 'Reason'" or "So much for Reason" or "I thought this site was about free minds and free markets. How unReasonable! (get it? har har)"
enough. we get it. the mag is called Reason and you think it's being unreasonable and that's supposed to be really clever to point out.
sorry, i just had to point this out.
Why was HL Menken so hostile towards Rotarians?
Who wasn't Mencken hostile towards?
(not that there's anything wrong with that)
"Little Green Footballs is so effective that a Reuters employee threatened the head of the LGF with harm."
I'm sorry. I thought this was irony. It wasn't?

Syntax poor. Be corrected could it. I comprehension trouble have. Speling bad to.
"I notice your refutation of the obvious sins I and others point out consists of trying to head the charges off at the pass, so to speak. Before patriot point out that your practically a fifth column, like your frinds at the NYT, you beat us to the punch as if you saying the charge first completely nullifies the charge. "
I'm not going to lie. I have no idea what this means.
"effective" doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. Let's use it in a sentence to get at your shade of meaning:
"Tina Turner was an effective wife to Ike."
True or False?
Is he posting in some super secret neocon code the rest of us can't understand?
I'm so out of it. What is this "Little Green Footballs" business?
Van,
Maybe
this is it.
10 milligrams of Prozac is for wimps. I maxed at 40 before moving on to Effexor.
Ah, Rotary. My father (a catholic!) was a big Rotarian in the Antipodes. It was a once a month boozing/networking/meet your sports, or economicaly liberal political, hero thing. I got to meet my rugby idol and drive a german sports car whilst at elementary school thanks to it. And they were big on wiping out Polio and giving exchange student scholarships (we got an Amish girl with BO). Hardly the most threatening organisation for the average palestinian.
You cannot rival these millenairian types for paranoid delusional fundamental fun.
Hey, Steven!
I think van just called you a wimp.
(Sorry for ratting you out, van.)

dbcooper,
In the summer did you make meat helmets?
Only if shaved appropriately, highnumber.
Ironicly enough, both Al Qaeda and the Rotary Club are Illuminati fronts.
Hey, Steven!
I think van just called you a wimp.
So? Nobody is perfect, Instigator. We can't all be he man Islamist terrorist sympathizers and Ernst Rhoem wannabes like you (misnamed) Reason bloggers.
Islamist terrorist sympathizers?
Steven, what's got you so worked up?
Damn, van! (Van Damme!)
He called you an Ernst Roehm wannabe!
Wait a minute, are you trying to call me that, too?
It's not funny anymore. You're just mean.
one bad thing about living in new york is that the liberal versions of steven (no blood for freedom fries, etc) aren't nearly as entertaining. i just want to toss a saddle on these fuckers and ride off into the sunset, real patriotic like.
