Double Your Pleasure

|

As Alaska cracks down on marijuana possession, Italy eases up, doubling the amount that can be possessed for personal use without triggering an assumption of intent to distribute.

  1. what, is everyone to busy to post because it’s 4:20 somewhere?

  2. 500 milligrams? WTF? That’s not even enough for a decent dinner party.

  3. Agreed, half a gram is about enough for a 2 centimeter joint.

  4. That wouldn’t get me through Phil Lesh’s first set.

  5. No, you’re not looking at this right – a 500 mg limit would force growers to put some crazy shit out there. Anyone who’s spent $20+ on a gram here – can you imagine if a bag half that size was the standard? That’s some wacky tabackky.

  6. Also:

That wouldn’t get me through Phil Lesh’s first set.

I saw him at Bonnaroo this year – and my interest couldn’t even get me through the first set.

  7. Found this at stopthedrugwar.org:

Health Minister Livia Turco isn’t waiting for legislative action, she told the conference. Turco said that while Ferrero’s bill worked its way through parliament, she was acting immediately to take administrative measures to ease enforcement of the law. One such measure would be to raise the amount of marijuana a person can possess, she said. Under the Fini-Giovanardi law, people holding more than about five grams of marijuana can be charged as drug dealers. (The law actually specifies 1/2 gram of the active drug, THC; with pot at 10% THC content, it would take about 5 grams to come up with a 1/2 gram of THC.)

That makes more sense. (Aside from the fact that it seems like like every borderline case is going to require lab work to determine the poetency of the evil weed.) So, if they double it you can now get caught holding a “quarter sack” without a problem.

Does anybody know what the typical unit is for buying weed in Europe? We buy it (I’ve heard) in 1/4 ounce or ounce multiples. What constitutes a “Fat Sack” in Europe?

  8. Aw, Jeez. Wye don’t eye ever sea the spelling airors befour eye hit “Post”?

  9. Damn, Rich made it to Bonnaroo, and I didn’t. I was planning to fly in for the event, but work intervened. I’m hoping they stick with this year’s format, which allowed many more indie rock/hip hop/etc. bands to populate a traditionally jam band-centered fest.

  10. If you get bored at a jam-band jamboree, I have no sympathy for you. It’s like complaining about being puked on at Mardi Gras.

We saw Phil & Friends at the Greek a few years back- great show. Unfortunately, Robert Hunter was the opening act and, great songwriter that he is, he’s so bad as an entertainer that he couldn’t even hold the attention of stoned Berkeleyites.

  11. f you get bored at a jam-band jamboree, I have no sympathy for you.

Didn’t mean that at all – there was plenty to do. While 55,000 people were crowding in for Beck, I got to go see Les Claypool from about 15 feet – and before the Flecktones took the main stage, Bela Fleck played a set in a beer tent for about 200 of us.

I’m hoping they stick with this year’s format, which allowed many more indie rock/hip hop/etc. bands to populate a traditionally jam band-centered fest.

I’m hoping so too – but my understanding is that they had a five-year lease on the grounds, so I can’t help but wonder what sponsors (MTV was the big rumor for 2007) are going to push in next year.

  12. You bring up Claypool and Fleck as highlights; I now trust your taste.

Rich, you are invited to my place anytime.

  13. I was also at Bonnaroo, and Phil Lesh blew my mind (then again, that might have been the fungus I ate right before Sonic Youth…).

I’ve been turning it over again and again in my head, and I just can’t piece it together why anyone would think marijuana prohibition is a good idea. I can see arguments for other drugs being illegal (not good arguments, but at least semi-sensical ones), but I just cannot figure out why people would want to keep pot illegal.

  14. 5g = roughly 1/6 oz. Whoopee. Not even a good weekend’s worth.

VK: Isn’t weed/hash bought by the gram in Europe?

I’ll nod here to nitrous: the last night of the festival, we set our lawn chairs up on ‘Shakedown Street’ and did some people-watching, and the most entertaining were the people who paid $40+ for two fistfuls of balloons, and accidentally let half of them go in the middle of an inhalation. Hilarious.

  16. VK: Isn’t weed/hash bought by the gram in Europe?

I’m sure it is. Here in the US if I walk into a dive bar and ask the bartender &quotThink anybody in here has a quarter for sale?” he knows what I’m asking him. What would be the equivalent phrase in a metric country?

  17. Ask for a “Royalle”

  18. Trey,
I’m not trying to order a cheeseburger. I’m trying to ask a serious fucking question and I want you to acknowledge that.
    🙂
