'Individualised Hyper-Sensitive Private Censor Intrusion' vs. Baby-Making Jesus
One of the seven Indian states that banned The Da Vinci Code has repented. After reviewing the state's ban, an Andhra Pradesh High Court judge ruled:
The constitution does not confer or tolerate such individualised hyper-sensitive private censor intrusion into and regulation of guaranteed freedom of others.
Heartwarming cross-cultural addendum: Censor-happy Indian officials -- much like Brent Bozell's band of orgy obsessed killjoys -- hadn't bothered to see the film they sought to ban.

Brent Bozell sucks. I watched WWE Raw last Monday and saw 6, count them, 6 live naked male asses! Granted, 5 of them belonged to midgets, but one belonged to a fully developed black man. If Brent Bozell had his way, these asses would not be on my television.
And why is a country of over a billion people, with only a tiny Christian minority, and so many diverse sects and creeds that the thought of one minor Levantine avatar who was reputed to be celibate may have fathered a child shouldn't even raise an eyebrow, BANNING THIS MOVIE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Because, PS, it's a Democracy... in the mob-rule sense of the word.
Postmodern Sleaze: check out this editorial in an Indian newspaper.

Uh, does Dinesh know about this fellow?

individualised hyper-sensitive private censor intrusion...
Damn! I have no time at present to peruse the links but this quote-snippet has made my day. Cheers!
How do you put a plastic jesus on the dashboard of a human-powered vehicle?
Curious.
Herrick,
You and I take it seriously the idea of Hit and Run, but where had you run off to?
Here's to your hairy swingers for sure.
Herrick: I just spoke with Bozell; he says you're a pervert with an irredeemable taste for sleaze.
Therefore, your balls are being placed in foster care. This is for your protection as well as theirs.

Most people who like to wax sentimental about the wonders of Indian democracy have no idea how thoroughly illiberal politics within the country tends to be, both with regards to economic and sociocultural issues. And it would be even worse if there wasn't a certain amount of elitism reamining in the system (at least with the two largest parties). A few weeks of reading the online edition of any English-language Indian paper will make you start thinking of the U.S. as a haven for libertarianism, principled politics, and quality governance by contrast.
Sanghvi's usually an interesting read. Sometimes doesn't get the big picture on economic issues, but is pretty good as a cultural and political commentator.

I just read that paragraph using my best Apu accent, and it's pretty good. You should try it.
