There's something inherently enjoyable about fashion in general for me. I think the reason I like red carpet fashion critiques is that I know reading them is the only way I will enjoy the super haute coture that celebs wear - by vicariously viewing ridiculously expensive outfits that I will never in my lifetime get the chance to mismatch and/or stain.

I myself am a big fan of The Superficial.

  3. mediageek   20 years ago

That should be "proceeds to name-drop"

    sheesh.

  4. Warren   20 years ago

    Blah blah blah superficial cakes

  5. parse   20 years ago

mediageek, I think that's Linday Beyerstein (the Majikthise blooger) namedropping in response to Bartow's characterization of herself as "just a nerdy teacher," not Bartow herself.

I hate the whole "celebrity culture", so GFY inspires mixed feelings in me - on the one hand, they're pretty clever, and these people do deserve to be made fun of; on the other, GFY assumes you know who everybody is and you're actually watching these award shows and such, which is just a way of buying into the culture. Anyhoo, Bartow just seems to be dying to fulfil the stereotype of "clueless humorless feminist". Apparently, making fun of any woman anywhere is still "misogynistic". And Bartow "grieves for the talented performers..." I don't grieve that much for them: if you put yourself up on a pedestal, don't be surprised if people take a few shots at you. But apparently in Bartow-world, they are forced to do this kind of thing by a male-dominated world - never mind that most of them make more money than a law professor of either gender. All I can say is that I don't know what the hell "feminism" is supposed to mean.

As a homosexual, I love laughing at bad fashion. I also enjoy an erect penis entering my anus.

I am trying to get the word "Double Duty" into the Gay vocabulary. It is in honor of Negro Leagues Legend Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe who would pitch in one game of a double header and then catch in the other. Most of my relationships would be termed as "Double Duty"

.. are you still thinking about a gathering on the 24th??

    .. Hobbit

  9. Rick Barton   20 years ago

Someone go buy smacky a ridiculously expensive dress or something. She's a good libertarian and a contributing member of our virtual community so she deserves what ever she wants! (Wow, "virtual community" sounds so old fashion now-evocitive of the feeling when ya look at a 1960's view of the future.)

    Herrick,

Do you think that homosexuals naturally have a more attenuated sense of fashion? I'm serious-all respect. BTW, some of my favorite Gays are libertarians and visa versa. Speaking of which; wouldn't it seem fitting to have the very clever Camile Paglia comment on this thread? She's kinda libertarian leaning and kinda Gay. (I think that she's Bi) Also BTW, Aren't you attracted to girls at all? Don't you think that Zooey Deschanel from the Go Fug Yourself link is quite cute or "hot" in today's common parlance? Not that there's anything wrong with that, if ya don't. 🙂

    mediageek,

Or is April 14th or 15th still a possibility?

  11. Lindsay Beyerstein   20 years ago

(Contemptible, posing shmucks to the last one.)

You better fuckin' believe it! Why do you think they associate with me?

  12. Rick Barton   20 years ago

    Oops. Spelling goof. Shoulda been:

"(Wow, "virtual community" sounds so old fashion now-evocative of the feeling when ya look at a 1960's view of the future.)"

    Sorry

  13. Mr. F. Le Mur   20 years ago

All I can say is that I don't know what the hell "feminism" is supposed to mean.

Feminism is a flagellation cult that became fairly popular in the Western world during the last quarter of the 20th century. Rather than flagellate themselves, though, feminists claim they're whipped by the "patriarchy," an ill-intentioned, omnipresent, incorporeal force which pervaded all aspects of life and society and liked to pick on girls.

Trying to enjoy my breakfast here Herrick.
Please keep your dick and balls off my plate.

  16. Rick Barton   20 years ago

    The Last Straight Guy,

No you're not. We're still the overwhelming majority and it's not like Gays are going to out reproduce us anytime soon. Gays have just raised their profile, and that's ok.

Granted, on occasion Herrick's posts are a bit umm graphic. But I must say; none of them any more so than yours, which was kinda gross. 🙂

  17. VM   20 years ago

    Rick:

    PREVIEW BUTTON 🙂

and rick, TLSG's post was high on the "ick factor".

i suggest we force him to get season tickets to the seahawks. would that be punishment enough?

(grrrrrr. just saw "the Drive" again on the eastern seaboard programming network. hrumph. it was in between them spanking to boston, u conn, and north carolina/duke.)

  18. mediageek   20 years ago

    Rick and Hobbit-

Yeah, still planning on one next weekend. Drop me an email.

Also, have emailed Julian, but it may have bounced.

  19. mediageek   20 years ago

"Why do you think they associate with me?"

Because you're a pretty blonde with a perky chest.

    Duh.

Aw, shucks, Rick Barton! Thanks for the sentiment! Much appreciated.

(You heard 'im guys. BUY ME SOMETHING!! :p )

  21. stubby   20 years ago

Well, I'm a pop culture junkie so I do know who all those people are (altho I don't watch award shows), and I do enjoy laughing that them, and I think the Fug girls have one of the funniest sites on the web. I read it every day, and every day someone stops to ask me what I'm laughing at.

"Although perhaps the courageous smile will disappear from her face once the 50th person has asked her to autograph their copy of some crossover fanfic in which Kate meets up with Gina Torres from Firefly and ends up in a steamy tryst while Jean-Luc Picard watches from under the conference table."

Yes, I'm a cheap laugh, but that's funny.
