You Haven't Come a Long Way Baby
Iranian police beat hundreds of men and women who had peacefully gathered in Tehran to celebrate International Woman's Day. Before beating the crowd, the police photographed and videotaped them, then dumped garbage on some of them. Among those beaten was Iranian poet Simin Behbahani. When people tried to defend her and pointed out she was in her seventies and almost blind, police reportedly kicked her several times as well. The police also arrested foreign journalists covering the event and confiscated their equipment. Police say that the gathering didn't have a permit.
