A Torrent of Legal Analysis

Prof. Lawrence Lessig has put together a presentation on the Google Print case considering whether a search tool that allows users to find excerpts of published books counts as fair use under copyright law. And he's disseminating it via BitTorrent.

Nice article.
And a huge issue that even effects the process of science and social change.

Clearly the ability to profit from your intellectual effort needs protection, but the metaphor of property/ownership of that effort seems to be the root of the problem. What about the culture’s intellectual property that supported your effort? Humanities intellectual property that supports your culture’s?

I think there are some pretty good voluntary solutions in the works out there. The US government would be wise to look at them and consider a major revision of the rules.
