You know, the Nazis sometimes misspelled words too.
Corected. Corrected!
You know, we're really not abused by the Reason staff enough for them to even mention it.
So Reason staff...get off yer lazy bums, and start abusing some Hit and Runners! 🙂
This answers your question about how long the blog has been around, Rick.
winner of the Los Angeles Press Club's Southern California Journalism Awards for best weblog in 2004 and 2005.
That's cuz those guys LOVE Matt Welch.
And, yet again, I detect a pernicious beltway bias in H&R's gathering places. FOR SHAME!
Aargh! You had to do it on the night of my company's holiday party.
Is the Friedmans tonight? I've forgotten, and the ad seems to have fallen off the margins. I wanted to call attention to this appreciation of Uncle Miltie written by our favorite TV droner, Ben Stein.
"I can tell you as a statistician that if there were only one right woman for every man, they would never find each other. Go out and find someone else."
Ha! that IS good advice. Thanks Uncle Miltie.

That's for sure! What do you guys have against Chicago, anyway?

Well, congratulations and happy "birthday" to Tim and Nick and everybody.
(I now confidentally look forward to this congratulatory message posting successfully, and unironically, one time and one time only.)
How about reposting some of the big comment generators from the first months - including the comments. We can all see how stupid we were three years ago. It'll be fun.
BTW:
Where is Julian at this thing? Isn't he a local? Nick's pimp hand is weak ...
Happy Birthday, Hit and Run! This blog has been a great distraction over the last three years. I look forward to much more.

US SHOULD INVADE CANADA?
Maybe the best thread ever. The original post was at November 11, 2002 04:37 AM, and the comments still available in the archive go from February 10, 2003 07:26 AM to August 19, 2004 07:45 AM.
Internet archaeology at it's finest. There are no regular posters appearing on the thread. It makes me wonder how many such threads there are out there, manned by a bizzarro HnR crew, living on in the ether...

JDM,
That thread made my brain hurt. Plus, I feel dirty.
Was it really that bad? Say it isn't so.
"That thread made my brain hurt. Plus, I feel dirty."
I should've at the least posted a language warning, thought the postbots in other threads would probably make you feel dirtier, if you dig around in the archives a little.
"Was it really that bad? Say it isn't so."
That's the bizarre thing. It goes on for years, almost 500 comments, and none of them are from anyone who posts here normally (that I've seen, I didn't read the whole thing, obviously.)
JDM:
Thanks. That was sweet.

That you know about. I sure wouldn't admit being a part of that.
Thanks for the history lesson though. It's nice to know that the server problems were a feature, not a bug.
[Seinfeld] Who ARE these people? WHAAT are they doing here? [/JS] Thank Dog for the attrition of the weirdos.

Nowadays they close the comments after a week or so, to avoid the spambots from taking over the threads. But yeah, I wonder how many threads have been carried on by others. Before they started closing comments, just about anything could have happened.
I just looked through the archives at the first few threads. I only looked at threads with more than one comment. Based on the several threads that I looked at, it appears that Mo is the person who's been here the longest.

You mean Mo has been posting here the longest under the same handle. Some of us have changed handles since then. 😉
JDM, that thread was hilarious. Yet it was some alive thing out of a Stephen King novel, constantly morphing into something else that wasn't visibly related to anything libertarian of Reasonish.
"that thread was hilarious"
I will forevermore call Canada "diet-USA."
Unless I'm missing some other thread (maybe another one carried on by the Bizarro H&R crew?), the "Invade Canada" thread is the second longest thread in H&R history. The longest, for better or for worse, was the Thanksgiving weekend thread that Cavanaugh opened up for general discussion.
