We will be if you vote for us in the Weblog Awards.

The polls close December 15 and you can vote once a day. And unlike many precincts in the US, your vote has some chance of being counted.

Cast a ballot here.

    But...isn't my vote meaningless?

  2. Rich Ard   20 years ago

    Where's my reciept?

  3. NoStar   20 years ago

Airheadianna's Huff and Puff blog wasn't listed.
    So I voted for H&R.

If I read it right, my vote was Number 11 for H&R.
Come on, people. Vote early and vote often. And get out the dead vote in Seattle.

  4. Shawn Smith   20 years ago

One of the best quotes from the Slashdot polls:

This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

If we can find the string that gets sent, we can spoof the poll.

  5. Number 6   20 years ago

    I voted for NRO.

Just kidding. Please don't cancel my subscription.

  6. Ruthless   20 years ago

Maybe if somebody slipped some steroids to the H&R server squirrel...?

  7. fyodor   20 years ago

You'd better remind us every day.

Actually, do we want this publicity? There might be an over abundance of comment posters already!

  8. Stevo Darkly   20 years ago

Tell you what. If, over the next four days, I do not experience any problems with the server strangling itself while I'm trying to post, I will vote for Hit and Run.

  9. smacky   20 years ago

How much is my vote worth to you?

  10. Stevo Darkly   20 years ago

Amendment: I just now noticed that you can vote every day. So I'll vote for H&R every day until the server strangles on one of my posts, and then I'll stop.

  11. Brian   20 years ago

I think the site's running pretty smoothly since they upgraded to a Tandy 386.

  12. Stevo Darkly   20 years ago

Ironically, the Weblog Awards voting page now refuses to load. I assume that's from traffic.

Or it could be yet another cruel, sick joke perpetrated upon me by an all-pervading conspiracy.

Self-absorbed conspiracy theories aside 😉 it is painfully slow over there. I suppose that's one way to discourage multiple voting attempts.

  14. Ruthless   20 years ago

Could the server squirrel influenza pandemic be upon us already?

  15. Viking Moose who didn't cancel   20 years ago

    Stevo:

"Or it could be yet another cruel, sick joke perpetrated upon me by an all-pervading conspiracy"

sure took you long enough to pick up on this.

    heh. 🙂

    cheerio.

  16. tarylcabot   20 years ago

Have tried 3 times to vote for you guys but only get the dreaded "Cannot..." message. Can only guess that either Crooked Timbre or Volokh Conspiracy is conspiring against you.

  17. Jim Pebunk   20 years ago

At the risk of being ludicrously pedantic (come on, it's fun), is it really true that H&R will be the best group blog if it wins this vote (even aside from all the easy fraud issues)? I would think that some group blog actually IS the best, and the vote is only a way to approximate the deep metaphysical goodness of whichever blog really is best.

  18. Ken Shultz   20 years ago

We're currently comin' in second to Red State. ...Let's not lose to Red State--they suck!

  19. Cap'n Obvious   20 years ago

FYI...Hit & Run is currently in second place, behind Redstate by 25 votes

  20. Brian Courts   20 years ago

FYI...Hit & Run is currently in second place, behind Redstate by 25 votes

Hmmmmmm lot of people out at the moment - I could close that gap myself just walking around the office... would that be unethical? 🙂

  21. Rick Barton   20 years ago

Well, Hit & Run really is the best group blog.

    What fyodor said, which was:

You'd better remind us every day.

Do that for sure, Nick. You could see which editor comes up with the most creative appeal.

  22. Ruthless   20 years ago

I was just snoopin', not intendin' to vote, mind you, because I'm an anarchist. Saw this: "Polls require Macromedia Flash version 7 (or higher), which will be automatically installed if you do not have it." which reaffirmed why I am an anarchist.

Flashin'! Version 7 yet! Or higher!
    My stars above!
Is flashin' Bush's latest version of democracy? I'll bet it is. Sure it is!

Don't fall for it. I'm tellin' ya.

  23. Rick Barton   20 years ago

    But Ruthless,

Surely you can vote if it's not a government vote.

BTW, I think that an anarchist could even vote in a government election if he/she saw the vote as making progress toward no government.

Also BTW, do you have any fave anarchist books that you wanna recommend?

  24. Ruthless   20 years ago

    Rick Barton,
Thanks for axing, but I don't think we write books either. (It's hard to pin down what we actually do.)

  25. poco   20 years ago

Whatevah. WE know we're the best, and don't need external validation. Gimme an H! Gimme an R! We're number one! Yay!

  26. Wintermute   20 years ago

The people here are generally clever, but there is often a clicque joking back and forth, entertaining themselves more than illuminating the topic.

  27. Rick Barton   20 years ago

    Wintermute,

I also was just thinking about how much joking there is here now, and I do it myself sometimes. But still, Reason is a 'think" magazine and H&R is a think blog and it's strong, interesting ideas that carry the day here.

If ya see a post that's not germane to the topic and you're not interested in it, just skip it. I do on occasion. I'm only comfortable with your using the word "clicque" providing you're not inferring an exclusionary nature, cuz I don't see that going on at all. I think that this place is full of surprises and the surge in jovial camaraderie is one of em.

  28. Ruthless   20 years ago

    Wintermute,
Some here can aim a searchlight on a topic. Others can only bang their Barlow knife against a piece of flint. Whatever, it gets the job more-or-less done.
    What you want illuminated next?

  29. NoStar   20 years ago

We're now 5th with not even half as many votes as the leader. Not dissimilar to the results that the Libertarian Party gets in elections.

  30. MikeP   20 years ago

Also BTW, do you have any fave anarchist books that you wanna recommend?

My favorite is David Friedman's The Machinery of Freedom: Guide to a Radical Capitalism.

  31. P0rnSt4r   20 years ago

Macromedia Flash can store *.swf data which explains the Flash requirement as a sort of minimal obfuscation. If one wanted to vote more than once, one would search for award_poll_1_14.swf or something similar and delete it. Libertarians will not do this because simply, it is not done.

  32. Rick Barton   20 years ago

    MikeP,

Good call. I like that Friedman volume as well.
