Bork Borks Miers; Operation Rescue Wants To Abort Bush Nominee Too
From the Christian Communication Network:
Former Federal Judge Robert Bork, whose nomination to the Supreme Court was rejected by the Senate in an historically contentious battle in 1987, described the choice of Miers as "a disaster on every level."…
Operation Rescue President Troy Newman said today, "As more influential conservatives are recognizing Harriet Miers to be the wrong person for the Supreme Court, we once again call upon her to give evidence of her sound conservative judicial philosophy or withdraw her name from the confirmation process."
Whole thing here.

I wonder if Bork's Pubic hairs look anything like his chin hairs used to back in the day
And the ellipsis hides a comment not unlike Ms Miers' alleged characterization of Dubya:
Bork, considered the perhaps finest intellectual mind in the legal community,
Bork bork bork!
I don't know, Herrick, why don't you check those hairs between your teeth & get back to us?
Harriet E. Miers Helped Bring Feminist Speakers to Southern Methodist
Herrick,
I can't say for sure, but it is a mystery, isn't it, how pubic hair can either be like a briar patch or a silk pillow.
Whichever it is can add or subtract from the allure/experience.
Ain't life grand?
...add OR subtract.
Douglas Fletcher has spinach betwixt he teeth, but we overlook it, eh?
Do I have carrot in me teeth?
Bork bork bork!
...man, they don't do TV like that anymore!
This nomination keeps tryin' to collapse, but, for that to happen, there's gotta be a good exit strategy for the President.
If he drops Miers like a hot potato, how does he save face now? ...I'm not sure havin' her go before the Senate and get shot down in flames would be worse for him.
Sure don't - now that I finally have kids, I can get the tape of Jim Henson's Muppet show featuring James Taylor out just to share it with another generation.
Followed by Fraggle Rock, and perhaps "3-2-1 Contact!"

I don't have any kids. But the one I often think of is the one with Alice Cooper--he spends the whole show tryin' to get Kermit to sign a contract and sell his soul to the Devil.
Wow - some real intellectual comments on this post here this weekend..pubic hair..one liners..etc.. Is it me or have the demographics of reason.com changed that much..
mark213,
It's you.
Bork should know, after all...
"Wtihout censorship, it has proved impossible to maintain any standards of decency." --Robert Bork
I have never had any sympathy for this guy. He supports censorship. He was one of Nixon's hitmen.
I'm happy as hell that he didn't make it on too the coourt, even if his replacement, Anthony Kennedy, supported "Raich" and "Kelo." Believe me, worse could happen.
"...onto the court." Damn TV distracting me.
FWIW, whatever one thinks about Miers it is important that you call and/or write your Senators and tell them your opinion.
If you don't think that there's any chance of changing the minds of your Senators, or if you agree with the votes that they're likely to cast, contact the committees that the two parties have established to run their 2006 Senatorial campaigns. Tell them that if the party unites against/unites behind (circle one) Miers, you will be much more likely to send a donation.
Phone calls and letters add up. I vaguely remember a former Congressional staffer posting to this forum once to say that nobody important will read the specifics of your letter, but they'll keep a running tally of constituent opinions on key issues. If somebody with inside knowledge of the system wants to give us tips on how to affect Senators' votes on this nomination, that would be most welcome.
"Harriet E. Miers Helped Bring Feminist Speakers to Southern Methodist"
that was an excellent link. kinda weird, and it made my balls itch at first, but excellent nonetheless.
there is something to be said about gender parity and the court; namely that there's one token female slot, still. you'd think that no matter her politics, miers would be interested in things which increase gender parity. it's a bit hard to think of that as being insane.
also, the idea that tolerating other peoples points of views makes you squishy-soft on illuminism or whatever the evil du jour is has a depressing, gaius-esque cast to it.

Oh, I'm sorry that we're not chatting at the gentlemens club, wearing tuxedos, quoting Russel Kirk, Hobbes, and C.S. Lewis while sipping aged brandy. Pubic hair, one liners, and references to The Muppet Show is the level of discussion that American politics deserves. If you think it deserves better, then you no need to get out more.
I'm wearing a smoking jacket at the moment. Does that help?
Nevermind. I had to put it out.

WTF? Worse can happen than the government telling you your property and therefore your life are nothing but "gifts" to be doled out by the state? Yeah, worse could happen: We could be sodomized by heterosexual Bushmen.

I think you owe Pubic hair and the Muppet Show an apology. They deserve way better than to be dragged down to the level of American politics.
Thanks for the chuckle, Shem.
Mulder: All right, Homer. We want you to re-create your every move the night you saw this alien.
Homer: Well, the evening began at the gentleman's club, where we were discussing Wittgenstein over a game of backgammon.
Scully: Mr. Simpson, it's a felony to lie to the F.B.I.
Homer: We were sitting in Barney's car eating packets of mustard. You happy?
Just in case anyone would like to know, chin hairs (whiskers) ARE pubic hairs, as are armpit and crotch hairs, because they begin growing at the onset of puberty.
WTF? Worse can happen than the government telling you your property and therefore your life are nothing but "gifts" to be doled out by the state?
Much as I hate Kelo, having your home ED'd is NOT thw worst thing that could possibly happen to you with the Supreme Court's approval. Imprisonment or death would both be worse.

Jennifer,
Actually, I think being owned by Rick Santorum is worse than death or imprisonment or both.

Hey,
You're lucky I wasn't posting on this thread. I could've brought it down to a new all-time low, as is my custom oftimes. Be thankful for that, at least.
Mark-The mix of genuine insight and sophomoric humor is what makes this place interesting and-dare I say it-fun. As far as the demographics changing; it's been like this as long as I remember. Perhaps you're thinking of some libertarian forum that takes itself entirely too seriously. Something connected with the LP, no doubt.
Better to take myself lightly and make lame jokes than take myself seriously and drink colloidal silver until I'm literally blue in the face, as I always say.
...but... but smacky, you PROMISED you'd use that power only for good.
(do you know who has the noam chomsky blow up doll now??? it's gone missing again)
