You can add Amtrak to the list of institutions that failed when Katrina hit the coast.

Better cut 'em a check for another billion dollars! That'll teach them.
Incidentally, are you Reason guys pretty much living on the NOLA site these days, or does it just seem that way?
Actually, I think Amtrak failed several decades before Katrina hit the coast.
LOL, Dave.
Does anybody remember when "the City of New Orleans" crashed back in 1999? and there was another bayou disaster about ten years ago (or something like that)... Maybe Amtrak trains are AFRAID to go there!
Send in Thomas the Tank to the Rescue. He, along with Katy the brave snowplow (which we read in Mrs. Petrie's second grade class - and it got interrupted by a snow day, but then Will Daley wasn't there to read his page the next day, but fortunately it was just "Katy", so that was lucky) can help. Tock from "the phantom Tollbooth" can keep the schedule, and Turtle from "the westing game" can do the finances.
Tom (the great Brain) will figure out logistics and encyclopedia brown will explore his sexuality: is bugs meany really for him?
see, this entire stream of consciousness wasted on a thread nobody will visit. kinda like amtrak.
He's got a ticket to ride and they don't care.
Ah, but public transport is the solution to all woes, right?
The real reason that people couldn't get out of New Orleans isn't because they were too poor to buy a car but because there was no huge, expensive, public transportation boondoggle to carry them out of the hurricane's path. Yeah, that's the "ticket"...
