Maybe Stanton Glantz Should Move to Mumbai
India has banned scenes showing smoking, cigarette packages, or tobacco ads from movies and TV shows:
According to the newly issued ministry directives, each time an actor lights a cigarette up on screen, television channels must blur the scene.
Films already shot containing smoking scenes must run a scroll at the bottom of the screen, warning of the dangers of smoking.
The law will apply to domestic and foreign films as well as old films that are released in cinema halls.

That'll learn them kids not to smoke!

I kinda wish they did that here. Imagine the backlash when words come scrolling right over Sharon Stone's naughty bits.
libertarian notions just don't jibe with Hindu sensibilities. No surprises here.
Like a Jack Chick tract: sincere to the point of parody.
Great...now we'll get to hear a load of bullshit from the usual health-nanny types about how India is so far "ahead" of us...
Most likely, the ban will be overturned. Details here:

Why does anything coming out of India have to do with "Hindu sensibilities" only as mk suggests. Surely there are other forces as well.
While we are talking about "Hindu sensibilities", do you know that there are some sects of hindu priests (Naga Sadhus), in which the sadhus smoke marijuana regularly. I have seen them myself. So its not a legend.
And more importantly it is part of society in India.
So next time, you (mk) talk about something you have no idea about, please think again.
Hm. That wouldn't stop me from my bad habits, but it would stop me from going to the movies.
That's really going to take the lead out of Bollywood's version of Fight Club.
I so need to see Vikram Chopra's FIGHT CLUB. In fact, I will bookmark this IMDB page and check it next year!
Ahh, the constant joys of an overbearing nanny state.
