Founding Father Funnies from our Own Peter Bagge

The first issue of the new comic book from Reason contributing editor Peter Bagge, Apocalypse Nerd, is out now from Dark Horse comics, and it's a double-bag, backboard keeper. The main storyline is a terrifying yet still mordantly amusing tale of post-apocalyptic survival, as a Microsoft employee and his pot-dealing buddy have to cope with life in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest after something very bad happens to Seattle.

For fans of Peter's political cartooning here at Reason, you'll be as thrilled as I was with the back-up features: comic tales of America's illustrious founders. In this first issue we have an odd-couple tale of John Adams and Ben Franklin (and their third wheel, John Jay) womanizin' and diplomatizin' in France for the glory of our nascent republic; and (my favorite) an amusing jab at that ol' Federalist Alex Hamilton, ending with something I've long been awaiting, utilizing one of my most favoritest comic art tropes: Thomas Jefferson falls over backwards out of the panel in shock/exasperation over Hamilton's punchline.
