Trans-Fatheads

Canada recently required the makers of most manufactured foods to list their trans fats on the label. Trans fats are found in all hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and the foods cooked with them. But the labeling isn't enough. Some lawmakers want trans fats, which are said to raise the risk of heart disease and diabetes, banned. New Democrat Party leader Jack Layton has promised legislation that would make trans fats illegal.
