Oh, Say Can You Fine?
Guadalupe Madrigal fumbled a few words while performing Mexico's national anthem before a soccer game. That's understandable. The large crowd gathered for the match between teams from Guadalajara and Monterrey probably made her nervous. But it was still illegal, and nerves are no excuse. The government fined her $40 for her mistake, which it admits was an honest one. It says it could have fined her as much as $80, but declined because of her economic situation.
