Sadie Hawkins Day Is Gay Propaganda
Who knew that when I was in Patrick Henry High School in the late 60s and early 70s that our annual Sadie Hawkins Day was a part of the "homosexual agenda?" Fortunately a vigilant parent in Spurger, Texas has finally had the courage to put a halt to this devious propaganda campaign for the gay lifestyle.

Ah yes, conservative P.C.
"Liberty Legal Institute issued a news release..."
"Liberty" Legal Institute??? After looking at the website for this collection of bible-beating ambulance chasers, I have to note the irony of the name.
And forcing little kids to wear military outfits ISN"T pushing an agenda???
Single WASP-Yes, but it's the "conservative christian" agenda, and that makes all the difference.
Remember, forcing beliefs on people is bad, unless they are moral, christian beliefs.
I'm guessing that "Dress like a Mexican Crack Whore Day" is out this year too.
I'm floored by how this could happen after just ONE complaint from a parent.
"And forcing little kids to wear military outfits ISN"T pushing an agenda???"
But itsa pay-tree-otic agender ta get our good ole' white, Christian, boys ta join our glorius military an fight tha good fight again' them thar mooslims who is a plottin' and a planin' to kill us all!
An if our great pres-see-dent, George Dubbya Bush, keeps his promises, after we's is done fighin' tha War Again' Terror, we'll bring our boys home ta fight again' tha Satanic homosexuals and thar Gay Angender!
AMEN! HALLUHJA! JAYZ-US SAVES!

I imagine that this is one of those really small rural school districts where one vote really can make a difference for a School Board member's re-election..
Thank gawd for vigilant parents. Otherwise, we'd all be minding our own business and getting along just fine...
Personally I don't know which is scarier: This or the nation's overreaction to the "Desperate Housewives" plug on Monday Night Football.
Elvira Gulch lives.
As a huge fan of Al Capp, I'm concerned with your mischaracterizing his oeuvre.
Next thing you'll be calling Shmoos forerunners of Garfield the cat.
Let's have some reverence for Dogpatch and its denizens.

Obviously you guys have never taught in a public school. School staff have been so beaten down over the past decade or two that they'll geek to just about any stupid demand any sufficiently hysterical mother makes. The worst part of it is, it wasn't enough that this nutcase pull her own offspring out of the event, she has to make sure to "save" everybody else's kids too.
What happened to the moral value of minding one's own bloody business?
Don't worry Ruthless, Lil' Abner was the furthest thing on my mind when reading or responding to this.
The best is in the closing paragraphs, where a similar day was cancelled in a New York school for being "distracting and disrespectful to transgender people." The irony of the same event being cancelled in Texas for turning kids gay, and in New York for being hostile to transgendered people, is simply too delicious for words.

You know, all this BS about cross dressing could be ended once and for all if Western men took the wisdom of our Scottish cousins to heart and started wearing kilts.
Has anyone ever seen a dress code for how demure a male wearing a pleated skirt must be?
Is there a school where clothing is optional?
Now let's be careful we aren't being disrespectful to the strong moral values of these toothless, inbred hillbillies.

Sorry Single WASP, if it isn't The Bible, it doesn't count.

Maybe some friends and I will go on a cross-dressing vacation to Spruger, Texas; have our own little version of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert.

Oops. Sorry for the double post.

It's worse than you think. Apparently, only selected bits of the Bible count. Note the "moral values" crowd talk about God a lot, but don't say much about Jesus? He's just way too liberal on social issues.
joe, I resemble that remark!

Yeah, they use all of the New Testement "love thy neighbor" rehtoric for the TV cameras, but they will easily switch to the fire, brimestone, and smiting of bowels that makes up the rest of the "Good Book" while they're at the Meeting House for Sunday service. Jesus is Christian Right's bait-and-switch.
However, I would love someone to try to read the "Song of Solomon" during services. "Christ's love for the church" my ASS! It's ancient soft-core porn, and they know it.
It just hit me--Jesus didn't wear pants.
Ronald Bailey,
Neither did Sadie.
I don't like your set-up.
I have tender feelings for Sadie.
I'm guessing that "Dress like a Mexican Crack Whore Day" is out this year too.
No, that's still on, but only if you're female.

That reminds me. I was once in a wedding where all the groomsmen wore kilts. American dudes are not used to wearing skirt-like garments. A lot of the wedding photos had to be discarded because, after they were developed, it turned out a lot of us were exposing ourselves indecently.
By the way, gentlemen, if you ever wear a kilt, do wear something under it. Heavy wool can chafe against your manhood something fierce. I'm told.
"Stanley said the activities sent a message of gender confusion and risked subjecting her young daughters to sexual harassment by 'a bunch of adolescent boys who have suddenly grown breasts and are groping themselves.'"
Doesn't this imply that her daughters would be less likely targets of harrassment? If the boys are now content to fondle their own breasts instead of pawing at others' ...
"'It's like experimenting with drugs,' said Davies." Bitch, please.

A few years ago, when I was in high school, we had our annual slave auction -- the student council's only source of funding -- cancelled after one parent complained their kid didn't sell for enough. I forget the excuse the principal gave us for how it really wasn't "unfair."
Sheesh what a crock. Whatever happened to talking with their kids and giving them the courage of their convictions? If you or your kid doesn't want to do it, (and honestly I can totally see why a parent might not like the idea of swapping gender roles in an elementrary school), then just have your kid go to school dressed normally. F'ing busybody parents make my skin crawl.

Stevo Darkly,
I thought the whole point of kilts was to do some innocent flashing.
I always thought Sadie Hawkins day was part of the patriarchal agenda to keep women barefoot and PG. But that is not the big story that most of you missed:
A quote from the piece that may as well have come from 1954 not 2004.
"to give boys and girls a chance to reverse social roles and let older girls invite boys on dates, open doors and pay for sodas."
It's almost five years into the new millenium and the got dam GUY IS STILL EXPECTED TO PAY?
Apparently so, TWC, why else would it be necessary to reverse social roles for a few days so the girl has to pay?
Shee-it, TWC, I always make my ho pay fo' shit.
Actually, the cool thing is, I don't normally have to 'make' them pay for me, they do it willingly. 🙂
I thought the whole point of kilts was to do some innocent flashing.
Only faer mooning our great hairy booms at our oppressive Sassenach o'erlairds, just prior to doon battle.
Free Willy!
I saw these being sold at GenCon this year and they look really cool to me. I was tempted to pick one up but I couldn't swing $150-$200 a pop.

Heard a rumor that the Special Forces guys prefer the Utilikilt. (Credible source.) Can you imagine what the rebels in Iraq and Afghanistan think when they see a pumped up American soldier in a camo skirt?
Just this once I wish there had been a meddling parent at my school. Perhaps the dreaded "Sadie Hawkins Day" might have been stopped. Although it did have the unintended effect of leading my precocious group of childhood friends into a discussion about a girl's perogative to kiss a boy on the playground.
