John Edwards: "We've waited four years for this victory. We can wait one more night."

Does that mean I can go to bed now?

The *only* reason I'm still up is to try to figure out precisely what anti-anxiety medication Dan Rather is currently abusing.

Is it just me-- no one's talking about Wisconsin and the possible Nader spoiler there. What am I missing? According to my numbers, the difference between Bush (leading) and Kerry is little more than what Nader got in that state. And Bush lead in Iowa has maybe twice the Nader votes (only about 10,000). That's enough to get Democratic Lawyers in a huff, I would think.

    Paul,

Kerry is leading in Wisconsin I think. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5651986/

I've heard that Iowa's vote counters gave up for the night and will finish in the morning. Heh. 🙂

My bad. Sorry, it's getting late. I transposed the figures.

That's the sound of wind leaving my sails...

    Did Badnarik break Browne's numbers?

    - Josh

  9. Jason Bourne   21 years ago

    Wild Pegasus,

According to David Leip, Browne got 384,516 votes in 2000.

    http://www.uselectionatlas.org/USPRESIDENT/frametextj.html

Badnarik currently has 369,286 of the vote.

Ok, I'm trying again. Nader's going to spoil New Mexico. Bush leads with less than 1000 total votes, Nader garnered over 3400- the lionshare of which would probably have gone to Kerry. Hoowa.

Eh well. I'm fishing. At this point, it's not looking good for Kerry, even if New Mexico remains in contention. I'm going to bed, and my parting prediction is Bush wins it, Kerry concedes tomorrow morning/afternoon. Pundits worldwide revise their methods, pollsters question everything- the rules get thrown out, new ones made.

Looks like the Amish DID turn out after all.

    Paul

    Paul,

This page states that it really isn't that close in New Mexico:

Wow, a Yes slam and now an ELP reference. Clearly, of course, Gentle Giant's Power and the Glory is the appropriate place to go next.

And now we'll have the rush of Democratic pundits saying, "This proves we can't win without the central states. Over the next four years we have to educate those voters so next time they'll be more concerned about health care, schools, the environment, etc. and less about 'moral questions.'" The old "education will bring everyone over to our obviously correct positions" response.

This ignores, of course, that in the booths:

    • Voters concerned about health care, for instance, will still vote for W. if they disagree with the Democrat's big-government prescription. I agree that health care, schools, and the environment are far more important issues than prohibiting gay marriage. That's why I voted against Kerry.
    • Voters get to pick their own important issues, even if they are radical about it. Personally, I don't think the fundamentalists who want to ban homosexuality are any less reasonable than the fundamentalists who want to ban firearms.
    • What the candidates and parties say while campaigning isn't all that important. If the Democrats want my vote they'll have to do a lot better than taking a senator with a twenty-year anti-gun and anti-hunting voting record, dressing him in camo, and staging a couple of bird-shooting photo ops.

God, I'm glad election 2004's over. And I bet the voting officials in Florida are just as glad it's Ohio's turn.

  15. Jason Bourne   21 years ago

    Wild Pegasus,

    Update:

Badnark has 392,898 votes now, so he has now beaten Harry Browne's figures (who got 384,516 in 2000).
