Lord. For a split second, when Bush was asked about importing drugs from Canada I thought he was going to say as soon as the US gives in and goes all out for generics, private drug research is basically going to be dead because there will be nowhere left to sell with a patent...yeah, right. I do agree with him that we need to fix the drug patenting system so that when drug patents expire, the formula can't be slightly tweaked to extend it indifinitely.

And frankly his excuse was worse then what he didn't say. He's waiting to approve the imports because it's his job to make sure there safe first. The way he said it was creepy, as if he felt it was personal responsibilty what I do with my body...oh wait, now we're just at the end of healthcare and into the WoD...ugh...

    Vodkas almost here...

Bush missed an opportunity to address Kerry's statement that, under current policy, money is kept in the hands of the drug industry and out of the consumer. Horrors, a business making money as a result of its investment and sales. I thought that a "conservative" could be counted on to mention that drug revenue rightfully belongs to the drug company rather than babble about drug safety.

Yeah, but when drug companies can make thousands of dollars a month off a single patient in some cases, the idea of protection of profits doesn't play in Peoria, even if it would probably have catastrophic effects on drug development.

Bush missed a chance to talk about outsourcing of American jobs with the question about Canadian drugs. If we use our tax dollars to buy foriegn drugs, isn't that outsourcing some of our jobs? Secondly, exactly how much research do these cheaper drug companies do? Do we really want to trade our drug research and development for cheaper drugs today?
