Props to New Republic's Jon Chait for spotting this one: Cheney mistakenly pointed viewers to FactCheck.com rather than Annenberg's FactCheck.org. The former is a pointer to George Soros' website.

Update: Commenters say the redirect was actually put in place very quickly after the debates. Must've been very quickly indeed, as I checked it not too long after. Also, my own whoops: I initially misattributed the catch; it's right now.

Cheney also got factcheck.org's content wrong. The recent article about Halliburton on that site doesn't address Edwards' charges. Rather, it talks about the money Democrats have claimed Cheney received from Halliburton while serving as vice president. (According to the site, Cheney received the biggest chunk of the dough while he was vice president elect, which makes all the difference as far as Bushies are concerned, I guess.)

Kinda reminds me of that story on H&R about the dude pissed off at his school district registering domains in the name of people he didn't like and then putting up gay porn. I just find it interesting that the very same people who see nothing wrong with Hillary closing a deal just before taking office in order to avoid violating Senate rules have all kinds of problems with Cheney closing a deal just before taking office for pretty much the same reason.

Cheney made $44 million while CEO of Halliburton, continues to draw $170,000 a year in deferred compensation and has $18 million in stock options. Almost $7 billion in no bid contracts were awarded Halliburton in Iraq by a "secret committee" of which nobody knows the members other than it reached to "the highest levels of the administration".

If you think that's the same thing, then I'm afraid that you don't quite understand what the problem is. In the Cheney-Halliburton relationship there's money flowing from a company to the vice president and from the government to the company. Some of the mean DemonRATs are suggesting that there might be a slight conflict of interest here. These claims are wholly without merit, of course, as a man of honor like Dick "Dick" Cheney would never do such a thing, but that's what some of them say.

I tried to go to factcheck.com shortly after the debate and I couldn't connect. I didn't try again or do a whois, but I assumed the name was parked. I.e., someone had registered it but not put any content there yet.

However, someone above mentions that they got through and there was content. What was that content?

I'd imagine that whoever owns the domain just installed a redirect to Soros' site, since anything involved DNS would have taken hours to days to propagate throughout the internet.
