Space, A Kinda Frontier

SpaceShipOne has edged closer to making space-flight if not common, at least not the exclusive playground of big government projects.

I still have my doubts about the depth of the whole "space-tourism" market, but then again I don't get Branson, Missouri either.

    Nelson: What is this place?

Bart: Branson, Missouri. My dad says it's like Vegas...if it were run by Ned Flanders.

I once had a similar thought about Ocean City, NJ relative to Atlantic City.

Given the number of seasoned rock acts making killings by playing casinos and summer theaters I think it's time for a Rock & Roll Branson. It should be here in Connecticut. We have two casinos and a glut of sleepy, sparsly populated towns ripe for gaudy transformation.

What this is intended to illustrate for we anarchists and some of you librarians is that there is no limit to what anarchy can accomplish.
Most of your tax dollars already spent on "space" were wasted.

  4. Todd Fletcher   21 years ago

Burt Rutan would be surprised to hear that this was accomplished by anarchy.

  5. Ruthless   21 years ago

Todd, anarchy kinda sneaks up on you.

  6. Ben   21 years ago

Hopefully what we are witnessing is the beginning of what is necessary to venture out into space and leave the government behind here on Earth.

"Hopefully what we are witnessing is the beginning of what is necessary to venture out into space and leave the government behind here on Earth."

    Woop Woop!

  8. db   21 years ago

Let's hope this is the beginning of a very good thing!

    As "The Dean" once wrote,

"When a place gets crowded enough to require ID's, social collapse is not far away. It is time to go elsewhere. The best thing about space travel is that it made it possible to go elsewhere."
    --Robert A. Heinlein

    MrBungle,
I need to hear you enunciating your "Woop woop!" before I can discern your meaning.

"I still have my doubts about the depth of the whole "space-tourism" market"

It's deep enough to last until the second tourist rocket explodes on the launch pad.

  11. John   21 years ago

I'd rather die when my rocket into space explodes, than die when my bowels explode in some nursing home. Death is not the worst thing - not living is.

    I'm already saving up.

    John

    Hear, hear, John!!
