Recognizing that there are few threats to democracy as dire as the reckless and unfettered public discussion of candidates for elected office, Reps. Shays and Meehan are preparing to file suit against the FEC, "claiming that the agency has acted negligently by failing to rein in the independent campaign-related groups known as 527s."
