Footloose
Kelly Simo, a 12th-grade student at Anderson Collegiate in Whitby, Ontario, Canada, was suspended for school for one day for jaywalking. Simo claims she crossed with the light on her way home from school. Vice Principal Pauline Langmaid says she didn't. But Simo wants to know how the school can punish her for something she allegedly did a block from the campus after school hours had ended. Her mother says school officials told her the school day doesn't end until the student is back in the house. She asked if the school would be liable if her daughter had been hit by a car or mugged or raped after she left school. "What I was told was, 'Let's not get carried away,'" said Jackie Simo.
