Same sexual misconduct? A consensual affair? Hookers and extortion? Revenge of the Israeli homeland security adviser? You make the call. All I can say is: This sort of thing wouldn't have happened when Brendan Byrne was the Archduke of Trenton.

I think that McGreevey is a deep cover GOP suicide bomber. Who came out, so to speak, now to deflate the Kerry/Edwards DNC Bounce.

  2. shaulie   21 years ago

So he has this affair with the Israeli guy and hires him for the Homeland Security job. Ooops - boy toy has no security clearance and is totally unqualified for the job! OK, honey, you have to resign now, but don't worry, my good friend K here raises a lot of money for me and he can give you a job!

Only K. just got indicted in a seperate scandal involving hiring a prostitute to try and smear someone involved in an investigation - of which he was the focus - regarding campaign contributions.

K wants to be pardoned, but James doesn't think he can get away with it (too many other scandals going on, you see). So now boy toy, who works for K., is going to sue James for sexual harassment.

Anybody need a map drawn, or is this one obvious?

  4. Larry Edelstein   21 years ago

The story on CNN quotes him as saying that his paramour was blackmailing him.

  5. Mark L   21 years ago

Isn't it obvious. McGreevey did not resign because of a sex scandal involving official corruption. That's de rigure for Democrats. The sex scandal is just the cover story.

The real reason is that he got outed. The NJ Donks discovered that he planned on endorsing W for President! That's unforgivable.

  6. Mike   21 years ago

Democrat Underground has you all beat:

this gay man who's accusing him of rape is probably a Republican fright-wing plant who seduced the Governor merely to turn around and falsely claim rape in a lawsuit and expose and destroy the Governor's career and family relations.

That's typical right wing tactics, folks. Nothing else about this makes any sense. Unless the Governor knew he was about to be exposed by this guy either through the press or a frivolous lawsuit, there would be no reason for him to step down at this time.

He obviously has been threatened, and didn't want to put his wife and children through all the media harassment if he remained in office.

  7. B.P.   21 years ago

Surely Rick Barton can parlay the presence of an Israeli in this narrative into a healthy sputtering-in-tongues session about door-to-door salespeople who had prior knowledge of the 9/11 plots, etc.

  8. The Lonewacko Blog   21 years ago

Strangely enough, I didn't even think up any conspiracy theories, preferring to spend my time on more important matters. Namely, the picture of Dina Matos jumping rope.

  9. Black Hat   21 years ago

I now live in Connecticut, where the governor has resigned. I was raised in New Jersey, where the governor has resigned. Coincidence?

  10. Nick Bourbaki   21 years ago

Of course he (Golan) was a right wing plant. Everybody knows that gays and Jews are all RepubliKKKans. The Democratic party has always been the last bastion of WASP morality.

(I shouldn't have to do this, but....)
    /Sarcasm

  11. SteveMG   21 years ago

McGreevey had to resign after Golan Cipel threatened to expose the menage-a-trois that McGreevey had with John Kerry and Pol Pot in Cambodia in the early 1970s.

Porter Goss has the pictures. Kerry's the one wearing the hat.

    SMG

  12. Kelly   21 years ago

That's funny... I heard that Porter Goss has pictures of a foursome involving McGreevey, John Edwards, Idi Amin and Barbara Jordan taken someplace in Algiers in 1979. Jordan's the one in the wheelchair.

    I report. You decide.

  13. Crusader Rabbit   21 years ago

Lonewacko has it right. How could anyone with a wife like that be . . . you know. (Oops, I guess I just outed my own sexual preference!)

  14. PapayaSF   21 years ago

I now live in Connecticut, where the governor has resigned. I was raised in New Jersey, where the governor has resigned. Coincidence?

Black Hat, any chance we could get you to temporarily move to Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Cuba...?

  15. Ghost of a flea   21 years ago

I welcome our closeted gay overlords!

  16. bjbarron   21 years ago

Hows this for a gripping conspiracy movie...

A venal, morally bankrupt politician turns over his states' security to his gay lover in a post-coital fit of insanity.

Lover loses the job and sues...exposing and ruining the crafty politicians career.

Politician apoligizes and writes a book...soon to be made into a movie called "I'm a Gay American".

  17. zorel   21 years ago

I don't think 'mere' adultary (even a straight/ga/bi) should make him ineligible for office ipso facto.

If due to whatever scandal, this guys is deciding to step down, why announce now and wait until Nov 15th to pack his bags? Is there a transition plan in place?

  18. Jim   21 years ago

My God, how could you all have missed it. Golan is not a right wing plant - he is a Mossad plant. It is all part of the Zionist plot to take over the world. Isn't it obvious???

  19. Waffle King   21 years ago

" 'this gay man who's accusing him of rape is probably a Republican fright-wing plant who seduced the Governor merely to turn around and falsely claim rape in a lawsuit and expose and destroy the Governor's career and family relations.'

That's typical right wing tactics, folks. Nothing else about this makes any sense."

That sounds like Palestinian accusations of Israel sending Jewish women to Gaza or the West Bank to seduce Palestinian men out of useful intelligence.

Wait ... Golan IS Israeli... That means McGreevey is ...

    PALESTINIAN!!!!!!

  20. Ken Shultz   21 years ago

He has a daughter, so, obviously, he can't be gay.

  21. Russ R   21 years ago

Well, maybe the existence of his daughters indicate that McGreevey's not really gay.

Come to think of it, until today, I'd never heard of this McGreevey guy... why should I believe that he ever was Governor?

And furthermore... has anyone here ever actually been to this supposed place called "New Jersey"?

Seems like a big corporate-media conspiracy of disinformation to direct the population's attention away from what's REALLY going on... I'll bet that Dick Cheney and Halliburton are behind it all.

  22. jtemperance   21 years ago

I think this had something to do with McGreevey refusing to surrender the Golan heights.

  23. The Anti-Gunnels   21 years ago

    I blame Gary Gunnels.

  24. our hyperinteventionist foreig   21 years ago

    RE: Mike's Democrat Underground post

Wow, that's taking one for the team.

  26. madman   21 years ago

Its all Bush's fault. He should not have invaded Iraq.

  27. Geoff Matthews   21 years ago

He did it to deflect attention from his other scandals. What could be more salacious than a married govenor being sued by a less-than cooperative man?
This is the live boy, and since Lawrence, that isn't a crime. The other scandals, however . . .
I'm going out on a limb and say that he isn't really gay. He just wants people to think he is so that they won't concentrate on his actual corruption.

  28. James Anderson Merritt   21 years ago

I can see the bumperstickers now: "Don't blame me. I voted for Sabrin."

  29. Meshuganer   21 years ago

Make it a menage a cinque include janet Reno

  30. raymond_m   21 years ago

It can't be adultery, since adultery means sex. And it can't be sex, because the guy's a Democrat, and sex for a Democrat always involves putting one's whatchamacallit into someone else's whatsit.

I want a constitutional amendment! Let's define this thing once and for all!!!

  31. anonymous Jerseyite   21 years ago

Remember when McGreevey broke his leg "walking on the beach" with his wife? It's now ok to tell the truth, McGreevey and Golan were on a beach, the security detail closed the entire strip of the beach, they were on a lifegaurd chair, doing the nasty, and McGreevey fell off, breaking his leg. He was medivac'ed out, and his wife medivac'ed in to the hospital for cover, she had been home that weekend.

Golan threatened to blackmail for $5 million in the last 72 hours, McGreevey's inner circle, out of desperation, finally called a national agency, namely the FBI office in Manhattan. Cipel responded by promising to file the lawsuit, this morning.

And this whole thing is bravo sierra, Christie has enough on McGreevey and several of his inner circle to indict NOW, McGreevey has been thrown to the dogs, to save the real criminals behind the scenes from public exposure. If Kerry wins, watch the smear campaign against Christie to go into effect. People have been contacted already to prepare backgrounders on him.

  32. Cerulaen   21 years ago

It was actually well known to those inside his campaign when he ran for governor that he is gay. His "boyfriend" used to attend campaign parties along with his wife. Now being gay should not invalidate you from running for governor, but being gay, getting married to women twice and having children, all to make yourself appear straight because you believe being gay would invalidate your candidacy is just hipocrisy at it's finest.

  33. Mr. Bingley   21 years ago

golan is a kerry plant, and this was exposed now to make everyone stop singing "holiday in cambodia" and save kerry's campaign.

  34. tinfoil.hat.guy   21 years ago

Has anyone noticed that "Golan Cipel" is an anagram for "PILL CAN GEO"? It's those evil Pharma companies based in NJ, who are plotting to take over the world!!

  35. tom   21 years ago

I have read the NJ State Constituion.
Nowhere does it authorize the office of Executive Concubine.

Since NJ is run by Democrats, and the legislature can ammend the state constitution without the consent of the subjects, I expect this to change any time now, so they can cover the rest of thier butts in the future. After all, we all know that all those 'staff assistants' running around Trenton are not really there to assist the office staff, they are there to assist the bosses staff.

    It's good to be king.

    Tom

Black Hat said: "I now live in Connecticut, where the governor has resigned. I was raised in New Jersey, where the governor has resigned. Coincidence?"

Maybe... any chance you could show up in Florida?

  37. Ted B.   21 years ago

    Perhaps the more legally versed can comment;

Since boy-toy Golan was on the NJ State payroll when he was harassed" by his supervisor (McGreevey), that means the taxpayers of New Jersey will be the ones paying out the milions to settle this? Isn't the "employer" ultimately liable in instances of workplace harassment?

  38. The Conspiracy of People Who T   21 years ago

    hyperinteventionist foreign policy,

    You're fired!

    Raimondo, you and your antiwar.com
outfit get in there and pull us out of this mess so the world will be safe for capitalism.

  40. charliebean   21 years ago

This has been a carefully orchestrated event leading up to the release of his new book entitled:
"Another Gay American Who Hates Bush".

  41. kevrob   21 years ago

Nowhere does it authorize the office of Executive Concubine.

Did you check for Executive Catamite?
