Party Discipline, Up Close and Personal
Seconds after I walked away from Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown tonight, an angry young delegate blocked my forward progress and jabbed me in the stomach.
"Who are you with?" he demanded.
"Uh, Reason magazine. Who are you with?"
"I?m from California," he said, then quickly launched into a red-faced anti-Governor Moonbeam tirade.
"I'm sick and tired of seeing him doing interviews on all the cable shows as some Democrat! [?] When we needed him in '92, he never endorsed Bill Clinton, he left the Party. '96, he left the Party; he ran as a We the People independent.
Don't quote me on this, but I mean Wolf Blitzer and all these people, I want [them] to say to him, 'Have you re-registered as a Democrat? Why? Is it because the party stands for something different now than it did then?' You know, he needs to be held accountable.
