Comments
Update: Comments seem to work now.
We just upgraded to MovableType 3.0 and it did not go so well. Old comments are not being displayed, although we do have them backed up and will try to get them to show up again as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Damn, you lost the old comments.
Anyone up for a discussion on whether or not we should have gone into Iraq?
Just because the number is higher, that doesn't mean it was an "up" grade.
Why don't the comments pop up into their own box anymore?
I recently switched my MT installation (2.21) from Berkeley DB to MySQL.
MT's export seems about as fragile as the Unix MBOX format. If there's an option to export to XML, perhaps you could use that to import the old comments.
However, if I were in the same situation I'd probably have saved off the MySQL tables into a backup. Then, I'd transfer the comments from the old mt_comment table into the new one, making sure the appropriate indices were OK.
Eliminating the pop up supposedly helps with spam and maybe takes some load off the server. Many people have complained about the server being slow. We'll be making formatting improvements shortly. The main reason for the version upgrade is to cope with massive amounts of comment spam to old posts.
Lonewacko- The comments are actually present in the new MT 3.0 database (and we're using Berkeley), but they are awaiting manual approval one at a time. There are 128,000 of them, so that won't work. Looks like perhaps the upgrade did not complete itself.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Further specify what you mean by "manual approval." Is that an MT thing? If so, it's probably a switch in the DB.
I couldn't find a GUI client for Berkeley DB, but I'm sure there is one. If not and in any case, write a small C program to change the switch in the DB.
Once again, I'd switch to MySQL, which would make setting that switch fairly easy.
If this is indeed an MT thing, I can't imagine the "manual approval" thing being somewhere other than in the DB. If it's not a simple boolean switch it's probably something equally simple.
There's a migration Perl .cgi that comes with MT that goes from BDB to MySQL, and it worked for me without a problem.
Not a big fan of the new look. The text is too plain and is displayed all the way across the screen.
Can you have the comments unfold below the Post? If this would be too cumbersome for some of the more popular comments sections, at least keep the same format for the comments and the posts.

That was cool, but I wish we could still use HTML tags for other words as well.
When I upgraded to MT 3.0, it was a nightmare as well - and I only get about 3 comments a month!
I also had the problem with manual approval for comments - this has something to do with MT's tie-in to TypeKey.
If you guys bought the commercial license (nice jump in price, huh?), I'd be contacting Mena Trott ASAP for some of that outstanding customer service!
Interesting change, folks. Plus ca change, or something like that . . .
OK, just for future reference, everyone post your opinions on the following topics:
1. PATRIOT act
2. Gay marriage
3. The existence or lack thereof of G*d
4. Abortion
5. Smart growth
6. Janet Jackson's boobies -- size
7. Janet Jackson's boobies -- shape
8. Janet Jackson's boobies -- texture
9. Janet Jackson's boobies -- literature
Faster, play faster, faster...
Don't worry about the old comments, they were mostly useless. Plus, now we get to rehash all the same arguments over again.... which I guess is going to happen anyway.
My initial impression here is that the columns are too wide, makes it hard to read.
But thanks for the hard work.
