Conservation at Gunpoint

When does leaving the lights on when you leave the room become a criminal offense? When you live in Carlsbad, California. A confidential source told a member of the county Narcotics Task Force that someone might be growing marijuana in a home occupied by the Dagy family. The police subpoenaed utility records and found the Dagys used much more electricity than their neighbors. Police say they were also suspicious because the Dagys didn't put their trash out until the day it was picked up. That's apparently something that only dope dealers do. Based on those two pieces of information they got a search warrant and found nothing. No dope. The Dagys say they are only guilty of leaving lights and computers on all the time and generally wasting electricity. They'd like a written apology from the police.
