Police in Miami and elsewhere are actually using scarce resources to spy on rappers. It is a pre-emptive move against any violence they might spawn, we're told.

Earth to fuzz: The only threat these guys pose is to a melody at 20 paces. Congrats on joining and amplifying their thug life marketing campaign.

People should be held responsble in civil court
for what they do,
if not individual cases, but as a class action suit.
Homicide is the leading cause of death for 15-19 blacks,
and over half of the homicides of 15-24 are black.
Maybe it is white kids listening to thug rap,
but it is the black kids dying to live the thug life.
If I were on a civil jury on a class action case,
I'd be inclined to hold some rappers responsible.
Of course suicide kills 50% more than homicide,
so those Kurt Kobane types could open pocketbooks.

Yo Billy -- I was a freshman at the U. of Colorado, going to punk rock shows and such. I did get to see Public Enemy in '89. Don't confuse the 2Live Crews of rap with the Tribe Called Quests, Lyrics Borns, Goodie Mobs, etc., etc., of rap. As you shouldn't confuse Jimi Hendrix and (fill in fulfilling rock-and-roll nutrition here) with juvenile crap like Poison and (fill in nonsense masquerading as rock here).

Curiously enough, there was a piece on NPR (guess I just outed myself) this eve on the divide between Boomers and the successive generations regarding rap. The wild-eyed radicals that cheered on Jim Morrison's penis and Jefferson Airplane's drug-induced white rabbit do indeed wax June Cleaver (as in, at the very least, "stop all that atonal, non-melodic banging and yelling") when the rap hits the airwaves.

And regarding dj's sonnet/anemic pentameter style: I think everyone posting here has tilted his/her head like the RCA Victor dog at his "prose" style of posting. Perhaps dj is just playing with us.

I've tried rapping it though, and it just doesn't rhyme.

being followed around by police is exactly what they want. The police have in effect become a part of their entourages. Frankly, the resources could be better spent protecting black neighborhoods from real gangsters, instead of black celebrities from each other.

I agree, and I don't. The black neighborhoods already get double police coverage of rich neighborhoods, one of the reasons that stops and tickets in lower class black neighborhoods are higher than other areas. There seems to be a positive ratio between the number of police patrolling per mile and the number of pull-overs.
