New at Reason: Jesse Walker has thrust his hand into Jim Caveziel's side, and declares The Passion of the Christ to be the biggest anticlimax since the third secret of Fatima.

Gibson was supposed to use the services of the former Dead Can Dance chick for the soundtrack but they had a falling out apparently -- the score might have been better in her able hands.
This is the best marketed film ever, the jews must be behind it somehow đŸ˜‰
SPUR,
I didn't know Lisa Gerrard had been considered for it. Thats interesting. I'm glad she didn't cheaper herself by doing it.
Regarding opening day. I don't think I will ever see anything creepier than a theatre full of glazey-eyed people with ash smeared on their foreheads staring at a huge screen.
sounds like the opening of any of a half-dozen films...replacing censor ash for pipe ash, of course.
and a DCD soundtrack woulda been pretty bitchin'
DENVER (Reuters) - A Denver Pentecostal church named "Lovingway" put up a sign that read "Jews killed the Lord Jesus," prompting about 100 people to march outside the church to protest the message before it was taken down.
The sign in front of the Lovingway United Pentecostal Church was put up on Wednesday, the same day the controversial movie "The Passion of the Christ" opened in cinemas across the United States.

I have three friends who are Pentacostals. They are all partiers who think the Pentacostal Church is cool, hip, liberal or something.
Now that's a church with one hell of a propaganda machine. It was also the largest growing church of the 20th Century.
Man, is our side fucked!
Oops, that is, Pentecostal.
JB, thanks for the link.
In my own area of residence, I?ve overheard people discussing Gibson?s shitflick with banter to the effect of, ?Jews are anti-christian? and the usual crap about Jewish elites running the world and trying to destroy christianity.
It makes me absolutely sick, and I think the ADL worries were well-founded. The puritanical beliefs invading the public square here in the US are just astounding.
So, out of curiosity, how does one get a job in Sweden?
There's a pretty big difference between someone watching this film and being turned into an anti-Semite (very unlikely), and someone who's already anti-Semitic getting mad because he thinks "the Jews" are trying to keep people from seeing a movie.
Jesse,
I agree with you. I mainly think in some cases, this movie is emboldening people on the fringe to be more vocal about their radical beliefs. I don?t think it?s making new converts, it?s just bringing old prejudices out of the woodwork.
Actually, I?m doubtful it?ll have any effect as a conversion tool.

I fail to see how the political aspirations of Caiaphas and company can be reasonably used to beat on the Jews. Shall we judge Catholics by the priests who rape their sons?
Good Job Jesse,
Of all the argle bargle spewed on this thing, I like yours best.
Yes.
If this is as passionate as Mel can be about his faith in God, I may have to ask Jean Bart for atheism lessons. Lame acting, the complete misrepresentation of Pilate's character, and what the heck is Mary (His mother, not Magdalene) doing in practically every scene. Rent it went it comes out folks. Say, in 3 months.
Are you kidding ? "Punisher" is going to hit the screens in three months time. So is a remake of "The day of the Dead" if i'm not mistaken.
What ever happened to Dolph Lundgren, anyway?
dj of raleigh,
Yes, for the blood splattering effect you really need a big screeen? Plus, its more profit for Gibson.

I was going to see the movie, but I've decided that I'm not going to bother...
... I've already read the book.
