Grover Norquist's Theme?
Canadian drug policy activist Michael Cust calls my attention to a video (click on the RealPlayer icon on the upper right) that features a "great redneck pot protest song" titled "Leave Us Alone" toward the end (starting about 24 minutes in). I think I prefer the satirical tourism promotion message at the beginning.

People who smoke pot, like gay people, are not part of Grover Norquist's "us." It's not the "Leave People Alone" coalition. They are very specific about who gets left alone.
who's grover norquist?
dhex: He's an evil Republican operative. Let the games begin!
Joe-
Whom does Norquist want left alone? I assume it's primarily conservative constituencies, but I'm curious how explicit/shameless he's been about it.

That might well be true. But leftists have their specific "leave us alone" coalitions as well, while not "leaving alone" those of us not part of it.
P.S. - Joe I'm not necessarily attacking you, just hypocrites on both the left and right who want to be "left alone" while telling others what to do.
Matt's observation reminds me of why I can't consider myself a liberal or a conservative. The politicians on both sides (and, sadly, some of their core constituents as well) are mostly interested in protecting the "interests" of groups they deem "good" or "worthy" while undermining the "interests" of other groups.
I'm mostly interested in leaving everybody alone first and foremost. Gun owners, gays, pot smokers, hawks, businessmen, labor, pacifists, nuns, atheists, you name it. I'm not interested in protecting the interests of business or labor, Christians or atheists, gays or straights, but I am interested in protecting the rights of both sides.
As long as the left and right are organized to leave some people alone while screwing around with others, I want no part of either side.
thoreau, according to Norquist
Wealthy people should be left alone by tax authorities (although he's cool with the payroll tax);
Creationists should be left alone to teach phony science in the public schools;
Corporations should be left alone to dispose of their airborne, solid, and liquid wastes in the cheapest way they find;
Employers should be left along to pay 13 year olds $3/hr to drive forklifts.
