While the Iowa caucuses will almost be less entertaining than yesterday's NFL playoff games, Christopher Hull has penned a great comprehensive guide to the next big thing for Democrats over at Tech Central Station.

    Anyone care to pick a bottom in Dean_Nom shares on the IEM?

    I'd suggest Dave Barry's coverage over at http://www.herald.com -- in fact, if the Libertarian Party were smart (HAH! I know...) they'd DRAFT DAVE BARRY (who's likely to run-anyway, he does every time!) and ignore all the morons with huge egos who want the LP to waste a lot of money on some un-winnable campaign. The true bonus of this would be the "major" parties explaining why they should keep Dave (who is more TV-savvy than ANY libertarian I've seen lately) out of the debates! Just a thought...

    I've always wondered why some other state doesn't just announce that they're holding a primary before Iowa. Maybe Texas (don't mess with Texas!), or Kaaleefourneeah (as our governator pronounces it). It would be funny to watch the candidates try to suck up to Texans, or see them all try to demonstrate their surfing prowess as they campaign in Santa Barbara...

    Well, for chrissakes, I was waiting for SOME sort of opportunity around here to talk about football. Looks like I've got my opening. Thus...

    GO, PANTHERS!

    I take it you mean the University of Northern Iowa Panthers, yes? Go Panthers!

    Good God, I am the ultimate thread-killer. I swear to you. I end every thread. It happens everywhere, all over the Internet.

    Here, for instance, the comments were rolling along just fine: five of them in just two hours. Yet in the ensuing six hours since I posted -- during which I have hit the "refresh" button countless times, eager to see a response -- there hasn't been a single follow-up post.

    I am the ultimate thread-killer. Somehow, unwittingly, I kill threads all over the Internet -- in newsgroups, on bulletin boards, in blogs comments. It is extraordinarily frustrating.

    Does anyone else feel cursed by this dubious specialty? Does anyone else feel like he or she is a thread-killer?

    ~~~~~~~
    I see that during the course of writing this very post, a "Will Wilkinson" has now added to the thread. This, of course, essentially renders my "thread-killer" point moot -- in this particular instance. But because it does happen so often, and in so many places -- including Hit & Run -- I'll go ahead and hit "POST" and get these thoughts recorded for posterity.
    Thanks, Will, for saving me, in this specific case, from "thread-killer" status.
    Sam, just trying to save you from killing this one a second time. STOP!!! For the children.
    Wow, first time I've gotten to use that one.
  8. AJMB   22 years ago
    Oh, and what kind of odds will you give me to take the Pats?
