At a conference on domestic violence, Maryland first lady Kendel Ehrlich said, "If I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would." A spokesperson later said Ehrlich had used an unfortunate figure of speech to describe her concern about Spears' influence on teenagers. "As a working mother raising a 4-year-old son, the first lady has concerns about the negative influences that the entertainment industry can have on young children and teenagers," said Meghann Siwinski. Siwinski had no word on what effect public threats of violence against a young woman by the wife of a prominent politician has on young people.
