I didn't see it at the time, but last month the Sacramento Bee published an interesting multi-part series on the post-Sept. 11 security vs. civil liberties question. Nat Hentoff says it "deserves a Pulitzer."

The Sac Bee better bee careful, cuz Big Bad John is going to shut them down. I mean with all of the newspapers, radio stations, web sites,tv stations, magazines, and blogs there is NO free speech in this country. If you say anything wrong you're going to jail. End of story. No trial, no jury, just the Gulag.
