McClintock addressed the CA LP convention in 2002. I didn't go, but I read about it. Despite his socially conservative views, he seems far more interested in trimming bureaucracy and spending than increasing the gov't's morality workload. Social conservatism seems more like a hobby for him, something to do once the hard work of cutting spending and taxes is done. Were Arnold not in the race the purity police of the CA GOP (who make libertarian purity police seem downright tolerant) would probably have nasty things to say about McClintock.

McClintock has maintained throughout this election that he's not about it to set his social agenda. That is not the platform he has been or is running on. The only time it has been even mentioned is when Arnie's Armies bring it up as reason for McClintock's unelectability. The recall is over Davis' financial mismanagement and that is the issue that McClintock has adressed over and pver again, and exceedly well, I might ad.

I'm sorry to add nothing of substance, just praise to Reason for the ultra cool headlines, particularly this tribute to Young MC...move it, boy...

Citizen, you are extraordinarily accepting of what a politician and his campaigners say. If we drew up a scorecard of everything a candidate said he would do and not do and compared it to his record in office, we'd see astonishing divergences. Don't you think it makes more sense to look at his voting record and compare THAT to what we can expect of him in office? If McClintock's voting record is soft in the social conservatism area, then I would be more likely to believe his campaign's positions. If, on the other hand, he's notorious (and I don't know, frankly) for John Hancocking morally normative legislation time and time again, I -- and you -- should have no faith simply in the reasons he states for running. Don't mean to be didactic, but let's be realistic.

Uh, this is California. What would the purpose of this legislation be? To get killed on the floor while scoring some points with the religous right?
