Say what you will about Bob Barr -- at least he isn't constrained by ordinary political categories. First he joins the ACLU. Now the man's writing a column for his local alt-weekly.

    anon 1116:

There are hypocrites on both sides. Too many people on the left dismissed complaints about Waco and Ruby Ridge as just a bunch of paranoia from racists, militia kooks, freepers, etc. We actually had shitheads like Morris Dees complaining about how scary it was that there were actually some Americans who didn't trust their government. Honorable exceptions were Sam Smith and Alex Cockburn, who hated Democratic JBT's just as much as Republican ones.

He IS "just gooder," ya know.

A fair number of republicans started sounding like civil libertarians in the 90s due to the civil rights indescretions of the Reno DOJ. It was cool while it lasted but most have dropped it now that a republican runs the DOJ. A few like Barr have stuck with it though.

If Barr would just drop his absurd views on the drug war its possible I could actually like the guy.

  5. Rick Barton   22 years ago

Bob Barr posseses a truly independent mind that evidently puts a premium on both liberty and distrust of power, not perfect("drug war") but he's a much better person to be in the oval office than it's current resident; VERY much better, or the pathetic crop of Democrat aspirants. Hey; Bob Barr for President! Conservative Republicans really need to mount a challange to Bush anyway and there should an anti-Bush alternative besides the self-rightous idiocy of the Democrat candidates.
