Live Like An Ape Man
New at Reason: Where should evolution intersect with politics? Should the human genome be considered a civic landmark? Should we prevent aging if we can? Ron Bailey checks in with the homo sapiens at the Association for Politics and the Life Sciences.

The only problem I have with life extension is that it's several extra decades of having Apeman stuck in my head.
Interesting. More and more people growing older and older...the ranks of the elderly increase without bounds........sounds like an AARP power grab!
I'm sure there are a lot of Luddites out there who think this is just a horrible idea. I know I'm gonna lose a lot of sleep over that! 🙂
Mo -- watch closely and invest in whoever wins that 'X-Prize'.
Nod to Mark A.
What happens when the AARP gets still more power to vote themselves goodies. Egad, we'll have to nationalize Bob Evans; we'll have a national holiday celebrating "Matlock" ...
This means that Brittany Spears could be 50 years old and still seem the same songs and wear the same outfits and be just as popular as she is now. If we had the technology now, anyway.
I don't know quite how I feel about that. It would seem that we'll just have, say, 20 years of N'Sync, instead of 2 years each of 10 bands which are exactly like them, from New Kids On The Block to whatever next group of losers they coagulate for the next "Big Thing".
Sounds to me like nothing would change - it would just be the same damn thing over and over again, just like always. It's just that you'd see it happen over and over again a few more times before you die.
Two Kinks titles in a couple of weeks?
Someones a fan...
Maybe for the next CA recall H&R you could use:
You can see all the stars as you walk along Hollywood Blvd
I was impressed when, after I called a post "Hey Mrs. Reporter, How 'Bout Talkin' About Yourself," a reader picked up the Kinks reference. But no one noticed a little later, when I titled an entry "Hatred Is the Only Thing That Keeps Us Together."
I come to Reason for the clever post titles. The best in the blogosphere.
The only problem I have with life extension is that it'll come in my 50s instead of my 20s. Well, that and we'd better start colonizing space before the technology gets too good, or it'll be real crowded down here.
"Also, wisdom comes from the accumulation of life experiences, not increasing decrepitude."
Not so fast. People who are strong may not have the wisdom that comes with being weak. Decrepitude gives them this wisdom. Are not the loss of a step, some memory, some teeth, some beauty among the most important, wisdom-giving experiences in life? Also, increasing decrepitude compels us to face our own mortality, which leads in all sorts of wisdom-giving directions.

Virtue never stands alone. It is bound to have neighbors.
