Drug War Hysteria, Part MCMXII
Yet one more sign of the anti-drug insanity at work in these United States, courtesy of the AP:
Sprint Corp. is remaking phone books distributed in central Florida after learning that the colorful cover art could be sending the wrong message.
The phone book in south Lake County features the magenta petals of the opium-bearing poppy, the flower used to make heroin.
Sprint spokeswoman Darcy Miller said the picture was chosen from stock art for its color and attractiveness but has been deleted and will not be used again.
Workers for Sprint recently distributed thousands of the books to the communities of Clermont, Groveland, Mascotte, Minneola and Montverde.
Miller said no one at the Sprint office in Kansas City, Kan., where the picture was selected, realized that the photograph depicted the poppy until she was contacted by a newspaper. She said the books will not be recalled.
Next thing you know, DEA agents will be arresting veterans hawking "Buddy Poppies" on street corners and shopping malls.

Opiates rule, but my real question is: When did Sprint get into the phone book business? They sure don't do that for their customers in Michigan.
I would like to have seen 'a recall', which the Sprint spokesperson said would not be happening.
"Give us back the phone book with the poppie on the cover! Now! What do you mean, you won't do it. Don't you realize you're talking to the phone company here??"
Maybe this thing could turn out to be a collector's item. Snatch them up & make them scarce while you can.
What you do is, tear off the cover, roll it into a tube about a half inch diameter and --- but officer, I was only.... call a bail bondsman.
Is that the same flower that gives us those tasty muffins?
Sprint apparently lacks the "freedom of speech" backbone. However, given the tactics of the DEA, NIDA, and Parents for Drug Free America (what a freaking joke), I am sure they would inform the public that Sprint not only condones drug abuse, but flat out supports it!
Should have been "Part MCMXIV", the year the Harrison Act was passed (like a kidney stone, except that a stone only bothers you _before_ you pass it).
This is no joke:

What's next, Dunkin Donuts getting raided by the DEA for showing poppy seed bagels in its advertising??
in the last year or so 7 young people, 18 - 24, in our community have died because of "poppies"
maybe its about time someone said and did something, like take a stand against drugs!
