It's a government plot (er, parliament plot) to make the Brits as fat as Americans.

Like the witch in Hansel & Gretel:

"Let's fatten 'em up before we sue the shit out of 'em for being fat."

    Parliament needs the money bad.

  2. John   22 years ago

You mean, so the British Nanny State Advocates can start suing Harrods?

    Hmm? Interesting thought.

  3. Anonymous   22 years ago

Presumably this is the other part of the deal that Blair made with Bush. Donuts in the UK have long lagged behind North America. Now they get the real thing!

  4. Jeff Smith   22 years ago

Watch out UK! Krispy Kreme is doing pretty
well against Tim Horton's in Canada, which is
impressive as Timmy's (as they call it there)
is very much a part of Canadian identity.
They'll have no trouble at all in the UK.

Too bad Krispy Kreme has better donuts.

KK donuts suck. Of course I am not a big fan of donuts to begin with.

  6. Ian   22 years ago

Krispy Kreme donuts are ONLY good when they're hot and fresh out of the oven. Then it's like eating sugary clouds.

Once they reach room temperature, they taste like lumps of doughy lead. And lead wasn't meade for eatin'.

  7. Neil Block   22 years ago

I love that light they have in the window to signal hot and fresh donuts. It's the batsignal for donuts! Now if they would only shine it into the sky...

  8. Madog   22 years ago

Damn! Now I've craving Krispy Kreme and the nearest one is 20 minutes away!

  9. Neil Block   22 years ago

I feel your pain; the one nearest here is 60 miles away!

  10. Boo   22 years ago

Aww right, can we knock if off already about Krispy Kreme? Why is every
    media outlet talking about them??

The mystery explained: when KK hits a new market it bombards all the media outlets and journos with free samples
(ie: this is what happened in Australia)
    http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s896807.htm
Classic PR. And results in contented journos writing nice puff pieces.

Then again, I may just be getting uptight about this because I seem to be the only one who hasn't tasted any KK products. They can't be that good, can they?

  11. mooserack   22 years ago

wait -- where's the brit version croesus to stand up and protect the delicate brit sensibilties from such awful bashing?

  12. dhex   22 years ago

you mean puff pastry pieces boo.

and no, KK donuts aren't that good. i never understood why people treat them like they're slow-cooked in heroin.

  13. Anonymous   22 years ago

When was the last time you stood on the scale?

  14. Neil Block   22 years ago

Here's why I love Krispy Kreme:

-Current analyst recommendation of 1.8 (1=buy, 5=sell) opposed to aggregate industry recommendation of 2.51
    -Current EPS 0.20 -- Forecast 2005 EPS 1.16
-All EPS reportings have exceeded analyst expectations
    -P/E of 37.9 (P/E: Industry 19.77, Sector 24.04, DJIA 18.86)

Good, solid long-term investment by my books.
