Multnomah County, Oregon, recently passed its first local income tax. The tax was sold, in part, on the idea that it was needed to help local schools. At the same time, the Beaverton School District increased property taxes. For about 337 people who live in both Multnomah and Beaverton, that amounts to a double hit. No one knows exactly how much these people will pay. Beaverton school officials say they are considering offering tax rebates to those paying both taxes, assuming that it's legal to do so.
