Senate to Members: Stop Stealing!
Reports The Washington Times:
In a fit of bipartisan unity, the Senate Rules Committee agreed yesterday to bar its members from stealing.
Senate Resolution 178 seeks "to prohibit members of the Senate and other persons from removing art and historic objects from the Senate wing of the Capitol and Senate office buildings for personal use."
Even among senators, the need for such legislation took some by surprise ? or, at least, feigned surprise.
The Times explains that, "In addition to art and historic objects, the resolution would specifically bar senators from stealing exhibits and furniture."
Something is seriously wrong when Trent Lott emerges as the voice of sanity, as he has in this situation:
"Over the years, they've taken everything," Mr. Lott said. "It just leaves."

"The Senate Rules Committee agreed yesterday to bar its members from stealing." ??
Really?
You mean, we FINALLY can begin to breathe freely. They've finally gotten to their senses and we are now free, Free, FREE from taxation?
Did they really call it the "Hillary Resolution" or is that just a rumour?
Silly them. It's the House and the Executive that are doing the stealing.
Has anybody seen the Bill of Rights around lately?
The Bill of Rights was meant for us, not for them. Let's kick out the 16th Amendment, which they slipped in there for their purposes.
All right, time to add another variation on the theme:
So THAT is what happened to the United States Constitution!
I will now join in the shock - SHOCK I tell you - that congress is comprised at least in large part by a bunch of thieves. Would it be possible to rename "Congress", "The Den Of Thieves"?
"Would it be possible to rename "Congress", "The Den Of Thieves"?"
Sorry, Pluto -- Twain and Rogers beat ya to it (long ago.)
Greg,
How about "Parliament of thieving whores"?
I for one am so glad they did this. I only hope it's as effective as the prohibition on unfunded mandates and the resolution to subject members of congress to the same laws they impose on the rest of us.
Warren, let's not (any of us) get our hopes up. In fact, isn?t it written above the steps of the Halls of Congress? "Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Want to Deal with Us."
At least for now.
They really don't give a flying fig what ANY of us say or write, anywhere. Mark Twain couldn't faze them; Will Rogers couldn't either; none of the thousands of websites, radio stations, and newspapers railing against them everyday will make one heap of difference to them ...
They'll just keep on doing what they've been doing for decade after decade ... until ...
...until there will be such a cry throughout the land as has never been heard before, and Congress gets slapped with a slew of lawsuits, the likes of which they have never seen before.
Kind of amazing that so many millionaires would have such sticky fingers. Well, maybe not.
Millionaires in bed with congressmen ... Sure! I believe it. Birds of a feather ...
But that's not the system we began building in 1776. Someone, something along the way snatched away the blueprints and built something else -- something hideous.
"... in bed with congressmen"?
Well, not always. Yesterday the Secret Service refused to let Microsoft founder Bill Gates into the White House because he didn?t have any ID.
This marks the first time that any billionaire has been turned away from the White House.
