Police Crashes
Barton and Sharon Holtz parked their car in Raleigh, North Carolina, one day and went to lunch. Upon their return, they found a Wake County sheriff's car had crashed into their vehicle. The damage came to $1,500, but the county isn't paying up. State law says it doesn't have to. A law aimed at curbing frivolous lawsuits makes government immune when its employees are in accidents on duty.
