Funnier Than Hardball

The Television Critics Association has nominated The Daily Show for several awards -- including not just Outstanding Achievement in Comedy but Outstanding Achievement in News and Information. No sane man expects justice from an award ceremony, but I'll be quietly pulling for it to win both.

"Outstanding Achievement in News and Information" - Are you serious? I think it's a hilarious show, but news it ain't.

  2. Anonymous   22 years ago

Jon Stewart's interviews with journalists and newsmakers are generally better than those you'll see on the cable news channels. Give him his award.

  3. Warren   22 years ago

I agree it's as close to news as anything else on television

  4. Jim Treacher   22 years ago

Olbermann isn't too far behind them some nights, though...

  5. Jough   22 years ago

I can't believe South Park didn't get nominated...

Daily Show: Intended satire, but with occasional moments of astonishing clarity and insight

Fox/CNN/MSNBC et al: Intended clarity and insight, but with frequent moments of unintended satire

  7. Franklin Harris   22 years ago

Olbermann? Which channel is he on these days? Animal Planet?

  8. mayostard   22 years ago

The Daily Show's political coverage is indeed second to none, but they haven't been funny for years.

  9. Jim Treacher   22 years ago

Back on MSNBC. He's against O'Reilly, so for once he might not get the chance to quit.

  10. David   22 years ago

Jon Stewart has never been funny...

  11. Eric the .5b   22 years ago

I have trouble seeing the Kilborn-to-Stewart transfer as an increase in the show's smarm.

  12. Sir Real   22 years ago

Madeline Albright was on last night- remarkably, she had some positive things to say about the Bush administration's goals, if not methods. It was a little annoying having Stewart babbling on about Kim's hair, but I suppose it's a fair trade.

Oh- and Louis Black is PRICELESS...

  13. joe   22 years ago

Louis Black, on boycotting wine you already own, "Ah, this Burgundy has the distinct bouquet OF IDIOT!"

  14. Steve in CO   22 years ago

Isn't it ironic one has to turn to a comedy (news parody) show to hear any reasonable criticism of the administration's policies on cable television?

Just love the fun they make of Fox News.

Oh, and did anyone catch the debate between the "Christian and the Muslum?" -- quite good.

    🙂

  15. harDCore   22 years ago

Daily Show is bomb! Jon Stewart is funnier than all ya'll goats. Do I need to mention that he sticks it to republicans and was in Half Baked????

  16. Jesse Walker   22 years ago

Steve: The Christian/Muslim debate is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television.

As for Stewart: I think he's very funny. But Stephen Colbert is even funnier.

  17. B.P.   22 years ago

Jon Stewart brought too much smarm to that show, but it's still brilliant. Craig Kilborn was the better host.

  18. Kevin Carson   22 years ago

Next time, John, I'm going to the Republican Party convention. They may be evil, but at least they're clean.

  19. Geotech   22 years ago

No, the show was much funnier with Kilborn than with Stewart. Kilborn had that trademark over the top shallowness which made him funny. To me, John Stewart just comes off as a conceited East Coast prick. And they shit on gun owners, which I'm thin-skinned enough to say gets on my fucking nerves after awhile.

  20. Anonymous   22 years ago

The Daily Show is news? No. no I am sorry I am just not buying it. I let you on my show to express your liberal opinion, and you did. It doesn't make any sense and now let me have my fair response. You are an idiot, Daily Show!
I'm sorry , we are out of time.
