You know, it's stuff like this that make me understand why people are opposed to the war.
Don't look now, but all sorts of government intelligence reports and projections crib from the Janes' series -- which you can purchase, or at least order through your local bookstore.
That doesn't make U.S. imint, sigint and humint any less accurate.
Bill, you sound like Dale Dribble of King of the Hill. Speak English, man.
So, let me get this straight. The (ok, just some of the) intelligence documents we are relying on as reason to go to war are in large part plaigarized from student papers?? I'm a student, and I'm scared now.
For the slow learners:
NO, this wasn't part of Powell's speech. It was something released by the British government to support Powell's speech.
It has nothing to do with the evidence presented by Mr. Powell at the UN.
"You know it's stuff like this (bad reasoning, poor reading, inefficient thinking, and the desire to deliver the cheap shot) that makes me understand why people think 'liberals' are complete twits."
Come up with a better argument, set.
As for "" (AKA the craven fool who never leaves a trace), I suggest you RE-READ the article. I repeat: this is a press release that was supposed to support Powell's presentation. It has nothing to do with the information in Powell's presentation.
Please think for a few moments, instead of spouting the latest fashionable fairy tale.
Sorry, I'm the guy with no trace, forgot to put my alias in. "Mr Powell was fulsome in his praise.", and "heralded by none other than Colin Powell at the UN yesterday" somehow led me to believe that he was not only aware of the document, but quoted, noted, or somehow or other acknowledged it in a way to make it appear to be a valid source.
And I'm not a liberal, I'm just annoyed by propaganda 🙂
The British document was first released in January, before Powell spoke to the UN. It was tweaked slightly and rereleased this month, and apparently was distributed to UN members. Powell did refer to it during his speech at the UN, and mentioned it to bolster his case.
He said:
"I would call my colleagues' attention to the fine paper that the United Kingdom distributed yesterday, which describes in exquisite detail Iraqi deception activities."
"You know it's stuff like this (bad reasoning, poor reading, inefficient thinking, and the desire to deliver the cheap shot) that makes me understand why people think 'CONSERVATIVES' are complete twits."
I know it's cribbing but it fit so well I couldn't resist.
"You know it's stuff like this (bad reasoning, poor reading, inefficient thinking, and the desire to deliver the cheap shot) that makes me understand why people think 'LIBERTARIANS' are complete twits."
I thought I'd go for the trifecta...
Bingo! We're all twits thinking our piss-in-the-wind posts mean shit to the 101st Airborne, now in the air and headed east.
Does anybody wonder why it was Colin Powell that addressed the UN this time? Or why he finally got on board with the hawks?
It is because he is the single, solitary, last believable person in this administration when it comes to Iraq. I saw a CNN pole the other day that showed him almost three times as believable as Bush (68% to 24%). I further believe that Powell finally accepted that the hawks were going to do this war come hell or high water. Being a good soldier and a patriot, he held his nose, climbed on the train and vowed to do his best to minimize the damage this folly will do to our country.
It would not surprise me if, after we shock and awe the weakest country in the Mideast, Powell quits or is forced out when Bush does something stupid in the ensuing occupation.
In this event, not entirely improbable, the ultimate irony would be if he would run for president in 2004. Even more surprising, I might even vote for him.
Damn Lefty:
Just when I had your card filed away as one gigantic a-string, you have to go and make sense...
Damn, Damn, Damn...
Sorry. I think I was high when I wrote that last sentence. I intend to quit that stuff before the next election.
