Trent Lott's CNN Segregationist Frat Brother

The story's out that back in the good ol' days of the early 1960s (!) Trent Lott–surprise, surprise–tried to keep his Ole Miss fraternity, Sigma Nu, lily white (for bonus points, Lott also tried to keep the university from integrating). While that's been known for some time, the new twist is that former CNN president Tom Johnson, a SN at University of Georgia at the same time, fought along Lott for the same grand cause.

Sez Johnson in Time, that was "one of the biggest mistakes of my life."

No shit. Wonder how many other upstanding men of that generation fall into that category? Remember the Mel Carnahan controversy about his appearing in blackface at a Missouri Kiwanis Club show? Is this something like French collaboration with Vichy?
