The Machine: The Truth Behind Teachers Unions

America's public education system is failing. We're spending more money on education but not getting better results for our children.

That's because the machine that runs the K-12 education system isn't designed to produce better schools. It's designed to produce more money for unions and more donations for politicians.

For decades, teachers' unions have been among our nation's largest political donors. As Reason Foundation's Lisa Snell has noted, the National Education Association (NEA) alone spent $40 million on the 2010 election cycle. As the country's largest teachers union, the NEA is only one cog in the infernal machine that robs parents of their tax dollars and students of their futures.

Students, teachers, parents, and hardworking Americans are all victims of this political machine--a system that takes money out of taxpayers' wallets and gives it to union bosses, who put it in the pockets of politicians.

Our kids deserve better.

Isn't this how all government funded programs work? Planned Parenthood comes to mind. Planned Parenthood gets government money, Planned Parenthood turns around and donates that money to one particular political party.

But, think about the dead children.

And unfortunately liberals perpetually believe that the reason for education failure is because we're spending too little on education.

Meanwhile we spend more per child than any other country in the world.

See, this is the real problem. This video focuses on a relatively minor problem (the automatic withdrawal of union dues), and spins it into this big machine.

Though I think this is definitely an issue, I have no problem with Sally willingly giving her money to a union, and that union spending that money on politicians. That's all part of freedom of expression, and it's not the issue.

The problem is that we, the public, keep buying into the lie that our schools are underfunded. Or, more catastrophically, that if we just spend a *little* bit more money, we could have everything working in tip-top shape again.

As other commenters have noted, the automatic deduction of union dues does seem to be a small part of the problem with education, but this film explains the basis of a proposition on the California ballot in November. Prop 32 stops deduction of the political part of the dues payment. It's a small step on a small part of the issue but it's the best we can hope for in a state where the public employee unions own the democrat prancing poodles who run all levels of government. And the unions will bankrupt themselves to defeat it.

Take a look at one of the things those deductions pay for, and prepare to be disgusted.

These despicable union democrats cheerfully bargain away the welfare and safety of the students for their own greed. They are monsters who crush the souls of children.
