Immigrant Protestors Arrested at the DNC, Feat. Rosario Dawson

GoogleCHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Ten undocumented protesters were arrested outside the Time Warner Cable convention center, September 4, 2012, where the Democratic National Convention is being held. The protest was put on by an organization called, Undocumented and Unafraid, and featured a bus tour from Phoenix, AR, to Charlotte, NC.
Protesters were surrounded by police in pouring rain as supporters
and reporters looked on. The event never turned violent and the ten
arrested protesters were taken away in vans.
The event was meant to bring more attention to deportations by the Obama administration over the last four years. The President has deported 1.4 million undocumented immigrants in his first term, 1.5 times faster than his predecessor, President George W. Bush. The current president recently enacted a deferred action program for young undocumented immigrants to avoid deportation.
"He has deported more people and yet at the same time [President Obama] is doing deferred action for dreamers, so there is always a mixed pot that we get," said actress Rosario Dawson, who attended the protest. "We can never seem to get someone to stand 100 percent and do the right thing."

Although I believe that immigration is a net positive economically, I am concerned about the political and cultural impact. Politically, latino mmigrants are very likely to support democrat welfare policies and vote for the democratic party. They are very likely to be poor and to be a recipient of welfare. Which souns better to a poor latino American who didn't pay attention in school and is sexually promiscuous, "we will give you welfare and food stamps and free healthcare so you don't have to work, and you can have sex with anyone you want too and leave society to deal with the consequences" or "we will give you the opportunity to work hard and maybe you could succed in life somehow the way mitt romney did."

Using "illegal" to refer to immigrants, slaves, drugs, and potential draftees that are violating the law puts the responsibility for the moral failing where it belongs: on the bad law.

Very good reason for immigration reform. We shouldn't provide amnesty but for the illegal immigrants who are here and want to stay and want to play ball, give them the ability to pay back taxes and a fine for the years they have been here without paying taxes. Also making it easier for people to immigrate here for temporary and permanent work visas. Making it easier to get in here legally will lower the number of illegal immigrants. There's a reason they want to come here. This is a great place to live and work.

Taxes take something between 15% and 50% of your income. Immigration laws take something between 50% and 1000% of most prospective immigrants' income. The damages are not really comparable.
But it's fine with me if you don't pay taxes. Government should be 50%-100% smaller anyway.
