Brickbat: Lucky Guy

Spokane County, Washington, sheriff's deputies ordered Conner Guerrero out of his house at gunpoint, accusing him of being an intruder. It turns out they'd gone to the wrong house when answering a call about a suspicious person. After they realized their mistake, they apologized to Guerrero. Just kidding. One told him he was lucky they didn't shoot him.

    The Sheriff also said the way Guerrero reacted made the situation worse.

    “You don't pound on a door, open it and slam it that way. Put yourself in the deputies’ position,” said Knezovich.

    The door wouldn't stop resisting.

    Put yourself in the deputies’ position

    Do I really have to be an incompetent bully?

  • db||

    I'll tell you what, Sheriff: I'll answer my door any damn way that I want when my peace is disturbed, and as long as I don't violate someone's leggitimate rights while doing so, FYTW.

    The Sheriff also said the way Guerrero reacted made the situation worse.

    RESPECK MAH AUTHORITUH!

  • Live Free or Diet||

    I would have stayed away from the door and called 911. "This is the Live Free farm on Ordiet Road. There's someone at my door shining in a flashlight." "Now he's pointing a gun and claims he's from the Sheriff's Office. Can you confirm his identity?"

  • Count Negroni||

    He's screaming something about "totality of circs", and he keeps spelling out acronyms!

    "I've procedures to follow dammit!

    where's that caffeine...

    Good to see my old home town hasn't changed.

    The Sheriff added that the Spokane County Sheriff's Office issued an apology to Guerrero. Guerrero said, however, he would not be satisfied until he received a personal apology from the two deputies.

    Uh-oh. He's resisting the apology.

    Mr. Guerrero's mistake was assuming he was dealing with normal people. If you are smart you dont behave the same way around a rattlesnake that you do around a garter snake.

  • db||

    Yep. Cops, criminal gangs...both use violence as their main tool for accomplishing their goals. You cannot deal with them on the same level as a car dealer or grocer.

  • some guy||

    I'd say they use intimidation as their main tool. Violence is reserved for when someone gets uppity or boredom sets in.

  • db||

    Fair enough.

  • Pi Guy||

    I am guessing there were no dogs to shoot. Otherwise, well... You know

    Put yourself in the deputies’ position,” said Knezovich.

    I thought they outlawed lobotomies.

  • Generic Stranger||

    Of course they haven't. How do you think they produce new police officers?

  • Anomalous||

    I thought that when a boy is circumcised, they take the foreskin, plant it in the ground, and it grows and becomes a cop.

  • BigT||

    The pigs or the dispatcher here should get at least a 3-day suspension without pay. Police malpractice. The pigs should be held personally responsible for any damage -they should have malpractice ins like doctors.

  • some guy||

    Why pay someone else for insurance when you can steal whatever you need to self-insure?

  • SugarFree||

    I think so too, but the next round of union contracts would mean that taxpayers will wind up paying the premiums.

    Put yourself in the deputies’ position

    Shoot first, claim "I was in fear for my life" afterward?

  • Loki||

    After they realized their mistake, they apologized to Guerrero. Just kidding. One told him he was lucky they didn't shoot him.

    Sounds like the cop was just being honest. He is lucky they didn't just scream "FURTIVE MOVEMENT!" *BLAM, BLAM, BLAM*

    "Reaching for his pocket... feared for life... shots were fired... bullets entered body... procedures were followed"
