This must be my brain on drugs, because I'm pretty sure the following video shows a member of Congress dismantling FBI Director Robert Mueller over the Drug War, and particularly the bogus criminalization of marijuana.
Link via Tony Pierce. I offered some optimism about pot legalization in this month's issue of the mag.

I especially liked his answer to the "gateway drug"
theory.
"kids probably started off with milk and then went to beer, and
then to bourbon and then maybe marijuana....the gateway theory
doesn't work"
I love the mix of mockery/condescension and absolute confidence in
idiocy of the gateway theory.
WASHINGTON-A shocking report released by the U.S. Department of
Education this week revealed that a growing number of the nation's
educators struggle on a daily basis with some form of teaching
disability.
The study, which surveyed 2,500 elementary and high school level
instructors across the country, found that nearly one out of every
five exhibited behaviors typically associated with a teaching
impairment. Among them: trouble paying attention in school, lack of
interest or motivation during class, and severe emotional
issues.

Christ, that has got to stop. Soooo annoying. What does "this" in
that context even mean anyway? Good gravy.

Is there any way we could get at least a partial transcript of this? I can't youtube at work and when I get home I have stuff to do. Sounds like good stuff, though.
Yeah, well I hope I live to see marijuana legalized, but I ain't holdn' my breath.
Legalize it. Treat it like alcohol plain and simple.
I'm so sick of the Gateway Drug Argument. Alcohol is the ULTIMATE
GATEWAY DRUG. It's probably 90% of people's first buzz. And if they
like it, the want more. None of my successful friends that smoke
got into heavy drugs like coke.
Once it's legal it will be exciting for the first 3 months. After
that, the people who smoke now, will probably smoke the same
amount. And the people who won't, simply won't. Not much will
change.
And if treated like alcohol. Kids will have as much access to it as
a 6 pack of beer.
So legalize it. And to the folks that say NO and that have never
done it, what right do they have to judge it?

Oh, but wait. The Christian Science Monitor editors are
suggesting that marijuana is so bad, comparing it to such horrors
as alcohol and cigarettes which the government hasn't been able to
control, that we MUST stop this legalization mumbo jumbo. Not once,
of course, did personal freedom ever get a mention.

Yo, fuck Xeones :P. I think that you would defeat a Star Trek computer with that logic loop, X.

amount. And the people who won't, simply won't. Not much will
change.
Oh, but much will change, as the prison/industrial complex loses a
major product line. And parents lose one more excuse for not doing
their fucking jobs.
The ability to appreciate and explore paradox is part of the essential nature of humanity, AO.
Wow, I had no idea that signalling agreement with "this" was such a sore spot for everyone. I'll refrain in the future.
Nick,
that CSM article was horseshit but they did get one thing right. I
don't think the violence will diminish at the border with just
marijuana legalization. We'd have to legalize all drugs but
unfortunately that won't happen anytime soon.
thanks for the read, though!
It's probably 90% of people's first buzz.
Sorry, but this is wrong.
100% of people's first buzz was twirling around and around until
you fell over dizzy. This is the first time you learn to
deliberately alter your consciousness. Twirling: The Gateway
Drug.
You will never stamp out the human desire to alter consciousness on
occasion. Drugs are a potent tool to do this and all attempts to
curb them will fail. It's as foolish as trying to eliminate sex. As
The Shakers how that turned out for them.
"Wow, I had no idea that signalling agreement with "this" was
such a sore spot for everyone. I'll refrain in the future."
This.
Jonas, it's probably only a sore spot for the douchey type of person who criticizes other people's comment style. And, for that it should be done often.
Jonas,
Huh? You discovered it annoys other people and you are choosing to
refrain?
You arent enough of a fucking asshole to hang out here. :)

Twirling: The Gateway Drug
As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball, but tonight I say,
we must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always
twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!
LOL
Fuck that. Marijuana legalization and thread comment
standardization and normalcy are serious business! So says the
Christian Science Monitor.
Why 'this'? Is it to save time because "I agree" requires three
more keystrokes? Then why no "yep"? 25% reduction in effort right
there! Let's see if we can get it down to one letter, or heck,
better yet, just quote the statement just leave it at that!
What a horrible thread derail this has turned into. What a sorry
state of affairs we find ourselves in that we're debating
net-speak...

Just last night, my 2 year-old son was spinning and
lalalalalaaaaa-ing round the bathroom, naked as the day he was
born.
First the breastmilk, with which I frequently made my son Milk
Drunk.
Now with the spinning...
Clearly methamphetamine is next, and it'll all be my fault.
Every additional character that we write is actually increasing
our carbon footprint.
I hope that the new net czar will implement federal netiquette laws
that will take care of all the aholes out there writing stupid
stuff like "this".
The issue is picking up speed, and it almost seems from all areas. We just may live to see that day that weed is legalized...

Perhaps Obama's successor will sign the bill. Legalization, you may
recall, isn't even in Obama's telempropter
vocabulary.
Perhaps if the issue was fronted by a Latina with a history of
identity politics. . . . who was also a union official. . . .
A guy can dream, can't he?
This is the director of the FBI?
I wouldn't put him in charge of a paper bag. What a complete
retard.
Man please, I see too Many people daily smoking their lights out... Trying to escape all the wrong decision they have being making all their lives. Dam drugs, get in shape, love your body. Marijuana, leaves a fungus on the brain. If you ever worked with a smoker, why they can't remember nothing.
Leon,
Seriously, i think you are growing fungus on your brain, stop
smoking your sweaty socks...
