In a segment taped Wednesday morning, Reason Editor in Chief Matt Welch locked horns with Think Progress blogger Matthew Yglesias over the Chas Freeman brouhaha, the omnibus spending package, Democratic attacks on D.C. school district vouchers, card check, and marijuana legalization. Clocks in at just under one hour.

No discussion on how the thumbnail of Drew Carey in the thread below looks like your (the two of you) beardless bastard offspring?
Why is Matt talking to Peter Jackson? Ask him why he remade fucking King Kong, one of the greatest movies of all time, as the first thing he did coming off the success of LOTR. Because I really want to know the answer to that.
Whew! That was a close one. But, it's good that Reason undermined him when it did!
Epi, I don't know the why, but emergent-great film directors seem to be drawn to remaking classics, whether or not they need to be remade. IE, van Sant with "Psycho." Could make an argument for Gilliam and Munchausen, but I don't know how great the original film was.
Tonio, Van Sant doing Psycho mystified me. Not only is
that completely not his style of directing (My Own Private
Idaho =/= Hitchcock), but to do it shot for shot? What the
hell is the point?!?
It's got to be some sort of ego thing. "I'm fucking great, so only
I have the mad skillz to remake something great." Something like
that.
But Jackson completely lost my respect with King Kong How
do you go from Braindead/Dead Alive to that?
Why would anyone debate Matthew Yglesias? He's a dishonest piece of scum. He cannot come up with any defense of Freeman, but he knows that it's all fault of jews/neocons.
Epi: I'm a big van Sant fan, but haven't seen his "Psycho."
While acknowledging Hitchcock's greatness, I'm not a fan. Like you,
I didn't see the point.
One redeeming feature of Jackson's KK: references to "Heart of
Darkness," especially "it's not just an adventure story, it
it?"
Tonio, Van Sant doing Psycho mystified me. Not only is that
completely not his style of directing (My Own Private Idaho =/=

Gus Van Sant remade psycho?!! Where the hell was I in 1998?!!
Gus Van Sant?!! So, was it full of long, contemplative shots sans
dialogue?
But Jackson completely lost my respect with King Kong How do
you go from Braindead/Dead Alive to that?
Wait, he made one bad movie (with some awesome set pieces) after
making several amazing movies, and he's completely lost
your respect? That's just silly.
