Seriously though, Malkin claims that she's fired up by patriotism. Lets just assume that that is not true, what is in it for her? Just to keep a job (i.e., is it just a gig for her?)? I have often heard (conspiracy) theories that she's trying to make the illegals and the Muslim "terrorists" just the front because, otherwise, Asian Americans would be the target of much innate racism in society. I.e., a racial theory.

one of many dissertations on the subject. I find the whole thing
humorous as hell. The Chinese are white, the Mexicans and Arabs
aren't. 100 years ago the Slavic people weren't white. Of course

This is over the top even for Fox. The bit has so little fact

Ron Bailey once called one of the Kristols on this at a conference on intelligent design where he asked him straight up "do you believe in God" and Kristol answers upset "that has nothing to do with anything." Kristol, a NY Jewish intellectual (uhh, I don't mean that in a bad sense since I take that scene to probably the most intellectual environment in the US), surely has little truck with Christian fundamentalists and their silliness, he just knows his readership.

Trying to take the high road with you, you obviously realize that
Christianity had a reformation, counter reformation, Vactican II;
etc. Islam had not really had that. It's not even that changed from
when warrior Mohammed conceived it.
Ironically enough, people such as St. Thomas Acquinas got his
Aristotle from when the Crusades went to the Middle East and they
copied the Arab copies of Aristotle. The Christians who copied
Aristotle from sort of accepted him, but the Arabs/Muslims, from
where the Christians got it, rejected Aristotle; e.g., reason,
logic, inquiry; etc. The greatest Muslim philospher Averros left no
school and was specifically rejected by some sort of reverse Thomas
Acquinas. Those who are familiar with Objectivist thought, whether
they agree with it or not, understand what I'm trying to get
at.

I have no problem either. But I think that if you adopt an
individualist approach when talking about Arabs and/or Muslims, you
can make way more mileage that way.
As for a Jewish state. Of course there should and will always be
one. Those who claim to be able to wipe out Israel are as
ridiculous as those who claim that Muslims/Arabs can be wiped out
(and, yes, there are those who make that claim). I have many
Palestinian friends who, at the end of the day, need nothing but a
home and a safe place to have families. Some of their politicians
are wacky (but so are some Israeli politicians -- you gotta at
least give me that one).
In any case, I also understand what you are trying to get at
regarding the objectivist view of the history of St. Thomas, etc.
But, I tell you, Averoes and his philosophy did prosper. Not only
his, but the thought of many others, too. It is only the modern
Islamists who are trying to extinguish the light that these
thinkers left behind. As for a Muslim reformation, don't worry it
will happen as it had happened in the Christian West.
I am really glad we had this conversation. We are making progress
here.

"free" policies that you advocate and who WILL benefit from lower
taxes - you don't need the government welfare services to get
through your day.
For whatever combination of lucky genes, circumstance or early life
you are not living at the edge of survival.
So why care if non-skilled workers invade in their millions to
outbid millions of Americans for the jobs they used to have - or
conversely if these jobs are sent out to foreigners STILL in the
countries of their birth thanks to Free Trade agreements? After
all, YOU'LL be able to expend EVEN LESS(!) of your discretionary
funds on that laptop or car...
So soulless? I'd ask you to look in the mirrors and note the lack
of empathy in your eyes for your tens of millions of suffering
American brothers and sisters. THAT'S soulless.

folks can be. Barnes is the executive editor and part founder of
the Weekly Standard. The WS may not be "right wing" in SIV's
fantasy world of Principled Conservatives Who Unfortunately Have

one of the leading voices in American Conservatism today (need
proof?). Barnes latest book is "

The history of ARAMCO is fairly complex. The original owners of
ARAMCO never bought the land the oil was under they bought a
concession to get the oil under that land. Eventually the Saudi
government bought a majority share in ARAMCO and that's how they
came to control it. And that's just part of the story.

One of the ways that Europeans used to intellectually justify
invasion of non-European lands was an argument similar to that.

The sad thing is, the minute I saw it was Malkin, I could tell you
almost word for word exactly what she would talk about and
what her spin on the subject would be. Unfortunately, that's the
trend in talking heads these days(along with their radio
counterparts) - total predictability. The truth is you can't get a
talk gig if you don't tow the party line (I speak from firsthand
experience).
It has nothing to do with anyone's political agenda; it's the fact
that the people running Fox and squawk radio wouldn't know an
original idea if it kissed them full on the lips...

I got the long form in the last census, too. I creatively
interpreted some of the questions at first (put down the unborn
child in my wife's womb as a child, with a DOB as of the date of
conception because I'm pro-life and resented the tacit assumption
that life doesn't start until delivery, put all our family members
down as "African-American" because according to the latest
anthropological theories everyone can trace their ancestry back to
there), then got incensed at the increasingly busybody questions
and told them to shove it. (I may have used stronger language than
that).
And I wasn't half as libertarian as I am now.
Somehow I doubt that any of the detailed information will be used
for purposes anyone even partially libertarian approves of.

Well, I extrapolated from existing concepts that are well
developed.
William Sheldon (1899-1977)
Sheldon hypothesized that a given physique and a given temperament
are different expressions of the same genetic factor. In his
original study with his colleagues at Harvard University, he
examined thousands of photographs of nude male bodies and concluded
that every physique can be identified in terms of the amounts of
three components: endomorphy - the fatty, visceral component;
mesamorphy - the muscular component; ecomormphy - the skinny
component. A person's somatotype (overall body build) is described
by a three digit number indicating the amount of each component.
Each component was originally measured with seven being the maximum
and one being the minimum. He later extended the scale to account
for deviant cases.
The endomorphs tended to be sociable, amiable, needy for affection
and approval.
The mesomorphs were usally assertive, adventurous, and
dominating.
The ectomorphs were emotionally restrained, apprehensive, and
secretive.

traits/personality/IQ as racial classification (i.e., not very),
somatotyping ends up being useful in kinetics and other fields
where body shape actually matters. Just like skin color or skull
shape are useful classification parameters for some scientific
questions, body shape has its uses.

Abstract The aim of the present research was to study the
variations of somatotype, calculated by the Heath-Carter
anthropometric technique, during growth in a sample of children
(416 males and 402 females), aged 6 and 10 years, attending primary
and secondary schools of L'Aquila and its province (Abruzzo,
Italy). The sample was subdivided into "urban" and "non-urban"
groups, on the basis of the residence of the children, to examine
possible differences in growth related to the different
environments. This study give an account of the somatotype
components between urban and non urban children between the age 6
and 10 years.
A tendency toward an increase of endomorphy (adipose component)
with age was noticed in both sexes. In females, ectomorphy
(component of physical linearity) tended to increase and mesomorphy
(muscular-skeletal component) showed a slight decrease during
growth, while males exhibited a discontinuous trend.
The differences between urban and non-urban children were not
significant, although generally higher values of endomorphy and
mesomorphy were found in males and females of the urban
sample.
The differences between the sexes consisted of higher values of
endomorphy and lower values of mesomorphy in females. Ectomorphy
was similar in the two sexes.

My research involves diagnosis and typology related to behavior, so
I have a general interest in attempts at objective classification
systems. So, in that sense, I take the general topic
seriously.
The somatotyping stuff as a way to expose the flaws in
racist/essentialist thinking is just for fun. It does a nice job of
exposing the underlying logical flaws of making direct connections
between unrelated phenomena.
Sheldon's work, despite its utility in kinetics, is a textbook
example of the impact of expectation bias. Expectation bias in
research on race is the primary source of confound, but is
frequently missed by advocates of essentialist positions.
Grand Chalupa (our shallow boat) provides a textbook example of how
powerful expectation bias is in the interpretation of empirical
evidence.
He professes an interest in the truth, claims to read the evidence
in opposition to the essentialist position, but the power of his
essentialist framing of the issue protects him from seeing the
flaws.
