David Cameron Dismisses Drug Decriminalization

Drug use is coming down, the emphasis on treatment is right and the Government wants to continue with its policies to ensure it can make a difference, Mr Cameron said.

His comments came after MPs urged the Prime Minister to consider decriminalising drugs, saying Britain has failed to tackle dangerous dealers.

Portugal’s system in which possession of small amounts of drugs for personal use is not a criminal offence, designed in part to treat drug addiction as a health issue, “merits significantly closer attention”, a year-long inquiry by the Commons home affairs select committee found.
