Haltura: The Word a Russian Hearing About the Russian Army's Logistics Problems Would Have on His Mind
"Халтура," pronounced roughly "hahl-TOO-rah" (accent on the second syllable), means "slipshod, careless work," perhaps sometimes with the subtext of "slipshod, careless work as an institutional way of life." (It also means "moonlighting," but that's a separate matter.)
Well, to be precise, a real Russian would probably have many other words on his mind, too, of varying degrees of vulgarity. But a Russian speaker like me, who left the Russosphere when he was seven, and was raised in an intelligentsia family where the other words just weren't said ….

For those that do not follow chess, the International Chess Federation has suspended 32-year-old Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin for six months over Tweets expressing support for Putin and his "special operation" against Ukraine.
The suspension, if upheld, will disqualify him from his spot in the 2022 Candidates Tournament scheduled for June-July. The winner of the eight-man tournament will go on to play the reigning world champion (Norwegian, Magnus Carlsen) for the world title. Karjakin had previously won the 2016 Candidates Tournament, losing the world title match to Carlsen (who has been World Champion since 2013).
FIDE is subject to the World Anti-Doping Agency and its 2019 four-year ban of Russia, but Russian chess players have been competing in FIDE tournaments as "neutrals". Notably, Karjakin was actually born in the Ukraine SSR and competed under the Ukranian banner until 2009, when he switched to Russia.
Of course, it is not "hahl-TOO-rah". It is corrupt rent seeking and o utright theft of public funds. Before we can huffy about Russia, remember the $trillions wasted and stolen by American oligarchs in the failed wars. We were run out of 6 countries by Stone Age savages with $50 weapons, thanks to the lawyer Commissars of Political Correctness.
The generals were the best at climbing the ladder and graft. These do not translate to battlefield effecteness.
I saw the news in French in Le Monde and had to double check my translation to make sure I was reading it right because they couldn't possibly… yes, they did.
In English we have a similar word. It rhymes with "Rigging" .
The Sex Pistols also rhymed with rigging.
No need to resort to euphemisms here. This blog welcomes and regularly publishes vile racial slurs (while, not surprisingly, attracting worthless and reprehensible bigots such as Frank Drackman).
get your mind out of the gutter, "Reverend" "Jury Rigging is a respectable old term even a dried up prune like you should know.
following along with that common Russia saying, meme... and then things got worse
The Alternative World Order is not having a great debut.
